Palmetto_kid,

That IS a good'un, and you should be proud!

One thing I noticed tho... every reference made such as "So when's the BBQ?", "Fresh boar BBQ? I'd drive 3 hours for that", "So what time is dinner?", or "I'm standing by for a BBQ pork sandwich !!!" has been ignored! Kinda makes me think you're gonna 'hog' the whole thing for yourself and not share it with all your close personal friends here at the DTR. That's kinda 'bore-ish', don't you think? LOL!!!

Yeah, I know. Sorry. I just can't stop myself sometimes.

J/K! Congrats!

chaikwa.

I'd hate to back that thing in a corner.

I just bought a Savedge 300 Win Mag but haven't even had a chance to shoot it again. Hey, can I come hunt with you?

Thanks!

Bama is dead on. I have been hunting for one of these big boys for years. I have killed a few with 1" tusks, but thats the longest until this one. I was so exited that I didnt measure them, but they are 2.5" inches easy. The thing about this dude is that his tusks are all there, and they are symmetrical. Allot of times you will see them with broken top tusks, or one longer than the other.

I have the bullet sitting here on my desk right now. It held together really well considering what it went through. THese big boars have a "armor shield" over their shoulders. It's basically really tough flesh that can be 1/2" thick. It will dull a knife quick. This bullet went through one side of the armor, 2 shoulders, and rested just under the opposite sides armor. I wish I had the camera to snap a pic of the bullet. I am impressed.

OH....BTW. there wont be a BBQ with this big boy. But im going to try and kill a couple shotes (30-60 lb) to go on the pit. The smaller sows are the best eating!!

Later..
Phillip

if they they are over 200 lbs, we just let them lay, we never eat them. they taste real gamey and stink like all get out.we did get a 400 plus pound sow last year and she was fine, my buddy made a bunch of sasuge off that one.

My personal experience with big hogs has been a good one.

Gunracer, with all due respect, I'm not flaming you.

Granted, sometimes you kill them wormy, stinky, or infested with fleas/ticks, and I let these lay. But I dont care how large they are, if the hog is healthy, fat, and clean then I will butcher it. I have yet to butcher one that was nasty, and I have let my fair share of hogs lay because of thier health conditions. I truly believe that this, combined with pre-processing meat preparations, is the main cause of people giving large hogs the label of having "bad meat".

There is no substitute for knowing what you are doing. I am not trying to flame anyone. I just want in-experienced hunters to know that just because a hog is big, doesn't mean that he won't eat good.

it is different down there, they are infested with hogs. the farmers higher a guy with a helo to fly around and shoot them in the spring. i never tried one of the 250 plus hogs, was just taking my friends word on it. we can just about get all the hogs we want, they hunt them with dogs, and normally catch them live and sell them. or we just drive around the place and pop one with a rifle if i want to take one home. fixing to go get a few in the next 2 weeks or so, planing a big party in the hood. heck i might even have my 50bmg by then, or use my 416 rem mag. but more than likely i will use my .308 g3, hard to beat.
