new house in Florida: face sun, or not?

basically just day dreaming at this point, but wife wants to move again..

this is the best looking home on their website,

pic #13 shows the sun SCREAMING in the front windows (they are in Illinois).
but, if you wanted a pretty glass window/wall like that in Florida, would you face it into the morning sun? evening sun? due north?

how would you cool that house? would Solar Panels counteract the Sun's heat enough to make the power bill bearable?

we have a Glass patio door on our front porch ( so it is shaded till late evening ) and it is still an OVEN in there, we leave it shut most of the time due to heat coming thru the double pane glass.

opinions?

If you are planning rural living, a steel building is OK in Florida. As for insulation, I have a 44 x 90 Quonset style building on our ranch and it is cool. It all has to do with insulation and a good cooling system. Those styles you show would be fine around our ranch location, but not in our location in a subdivision near the beach. The house next door to the ranch is a Styrofoam house. Great insulation, but sure I would want to be in it in a hurricane. I would head for the Quonset. Solar is used a lot in rural here. Many subdivisions restrict it due to looks. Cannot use it in ours.

If you want Florida, hit some websites and see what is available. Pick the area you like first. Good luck.

Big windows with sun pouring in the will rot/bake the furniture. They will look nice but the cloth an foam will be cooked.
