It just had to be done. I've helped a vet while he cut two different horses and I personally made the slit with a razor blade on a number of pigs while in high school. Pigs squeal about the same way I would if someone were doing that to me...

Holy moly, the squeel of a frightened pig has got to be one of the most blood curdling sounds in the world. We had 4H pigs at the barn where I used to board and when the vet would come to do vaccinations, it took a team of five guys just to round the things up, hold 'em down and stick 'em with a needle. They screamed (the pigs) as if they were being skinned alive *shudder* :-X I felt so bad for the poor things... [undecided]

We'd set them up on a table on their backs with one person holding each leg....and then there was the cutter. It wasn't fun...but boar hogs just don't taste very good. [undecided]

Re:New Horse

TXBobcat, I generally try to stay pretty gentle if I can. I find that if I take my time and just get the horse to think that I am doing what he wants, things go pretty good. Now for the report. Spent about 2 hours with the blanket, headstall and saddle. Then got on and let him walk around a while with no input. Been on him two times now (Bad weather) and so far he and I have had no problems. The wife wants to keep him a stud but I am not totally convinced. My mare is real happy tho. Looks like we got another on the way. Oh well, more hay.<br>ED
