New Forum Software Testing - please help
Re:New Forum Software Testing - please help
It seems to be working well. I tried to post all the smilies to test them out and it told me I couldn't post until i removed half my smilies. So the image limiting thing works.
I like it! ;D

I logged in and looked around for a bit. That vBulletin is a great program. Once everyone gets used to using vBulletin, I am sure everyone will like it more than YaBBse. Keep up the good work Jack ! ;D
Re:New Forum Software Testing - please help
Looks great. I love VBulletin. It probably has the best performance out of most available packages. It is also pretty customizable if you are good with SQL. DTR is going to run much smoother. Good job!

looks nice..looks like the tdr forum set-up?

Same software, but the look is nowhere close in my opinion, especially when we're done with it.

Logged in as soon as I remembered who I was :
Is there going to be the option to have a displayed name different than your username in this new format? That's where I was struggling logging in - couldn't remember who I was - I like the setup though!

IMO, Vbulletin is the best software out there for this purpose. I've tried the others and there is no comparison, especially adminwise. This forum software is slow and bulky. It was great for when we first started, but I think we've outgrown it, and it's only going to get worse if we don't upgrade now. Once I figure out some of the other forum, we'll make the move.

Re:New Forum Software Testing - please help
Some more info, guys.
We're going to be upgrading the server for the website. Before we actually move to the new forum and put it in production, we have to get everything running on the new server. Once that's done, then I'll ask a group of website users to help me test. This should last for a week or two.
Second, the forums will be upgraded to the new software. During this time for about the first week, some things will be broken. These things include the photo gallery, and some of the information that's currently available on the front page. As I get those things fixed, I'll also be putting a new photo area in. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to import the current gallery into the new one, so we'll have to start over with that. I'll leave the old gallery up for quite some time so people can take their pictures and move them to the new one.
Once that is all done, then I'll be changing to a new classifieds system that will allow you to use the same username and password that you do for the forums. ALL of the stuff on the website will then be converted to this so that you only have to enter one username and password. This is with the exception of chat, which will be on its own server since it's a pig. I'll move to a new chat system probably during the summer that will allow us to use our current username and password. This chat will be much more reliable then the current one.
This is going to take some time, and there will be minor bugs along the way, but it has to be done to accomodate the current growth rate. There is no way we can sustain this site in it's current condition or config. It absolutely has to be done. In the long run, it'll be much nicer. Galleries will automatically be added to a user profile when registering, and there will be links to user galleries in the posts etc, automatically.
On top of this, there are some new features that will be coming in late 2004, early 2005. Some of this is:
1. Product rating system database.
2. Classified ads will show up as a link in a users profile
3. Gallery will be in user profile
4. email address xxxx@dieseltruckresource.com will be created, and you will be able to check this email through a web portal provided by the DTR.
5. Faster
6. cooler
7. better
