You live in Vegas and have not been to Mercury? That's where they tested nukes. Been there quite a few times delivering to Livermore. Not too far from Vegas, have to wear a radiation badge to get in, signs all over "caution do not pick up the silica"

If you are not familiar with the place the older members are, remember the first atom blasts on film at school? With the motel in the background, palm trees bending over and a school bus rolling by. That was Mercury Nevada, motel shell is still there. Along with the bleechers where the polititions went to view the blasts, yeah really. They gave them the black glasses with a peep hole, let them watch. Wonder how many died from radiation.

Los vegas is already a nuke dump, you just don't realize it.

I live in Nevada and can not think of a better place to put Nuclear waste! Especially if they keep it down south Seriously though I still think it is a good place for it, I would Just charge the daylights out of the feds for bringing it inot our state!

As far as the elections go, i would never vote for someone who wants to take everything I love away from me!! Public lands are for public use!! Not to lock away from us. Guns were never meant to be restricted at all!!

My brother is a fireman and my wife is a teacher and neither of them would ever vote Democrat, they are both free thinkers and do not listen to the union garbage that they charge you for

Chris

I never said I have never been to Mercury, I know a little bit about Mercury. My mom retired from the atomic energy comission, known as DOE now. She worked personnel security for the test site. I spent two weeks training in the test site. I have been way back in the test site, I've seen the holes in the ground where they set the blasts off. I remember as a kid the bed shaking when the blasts were set off, they always did them in the mornings. When they did the blasts there was a distance roped off that couldn't be entered for a certain amout of time due to radition. Vegas never really had a problem with the radition because if the weather conditions weren't just right they would postpone the blast. Now the people in Utah , thats a different story. In St George Utah approx. 110 miles north of vegas they suffered with those radition clouds coming their way from the blasts. Many people got cancer and died, of course the government denied they caused it for years. My issue isn't with what is at the test site now, what is there is fine, good place for it. My problem is with them bringing the waste in from everywhere else. How are they going to transport it? Railcar, 18 wheelers, if one of these rigs is involved in an accident who do you think is going to be call?

Yeah, I guess maybe they like the idea of Bush cutting their overtime out, we can work 136 hours in a pay period for straight time, It didn't pass the first time it was voted on then Bush snuck around through the back door in fine snake like fashion and got it passed.

From the US Department of Labor website:

"The exemptions also do not apply to police officers, detectives, deputy sheriffs, state troopers, highway patrol officers, investigators, inspectors, correctional officers, parole or probation officers, park rangers, fire fighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, ambulance personnel, rescue workers, hazardous materials workers and similar employees, regardless of rank or pay level, who perform work such as preventing, controlling or extinguishing fires of any type; rescuing fire, crime or accident victims; preventing or detecting crimes; conducting investigations or inspections for violations of law; performing surveillance; pursuing, restraining and apprehending suspects; detaining or supervising suspected and convicted criminals, including those on probation or parole; interviewing witnesses; interrogating and fingerprinting suspects; preparing investigative reports; or other similar work."

Sounds to me like your department may be doing something wrong.

Assault weapons...wow i guess it doesn't matter if you get hit by 1,2,3,or 4 bullets...like 47 other will make a difference ...i say keep them, the bad guys will get them anyway they can no matter what laws are passed anyway, we should be equally armed in case we need to fight fire with fire

Any automatic will fire the same number of ammo which is a fast as you can pull the trigger. Auto's were not outlawed, just assult style weapons. Do you really care what type of rifle fired the bullets, or just how many were fired at you? The ban had no effective use in preventing crime. It just kept the libs happy that they were banning guns.

Naw hasn't effected us YET but nobody said Bush was finished. We are exempt for now, tomorrow who knows and for the people that aren't exempt, why do they deserve to have their overtime taken away?

...and nobody has said that Bush wasn't finished, either. And unless you have a crystal ball, there is no way for you to know. I haven't seen Miss Cleo advertising on cable lately, so even that isn't an option.

It's true that we don't know what will happen tomorrow, but I have a lot fewer concerns about what will happen if Bush is re-elected than I do thinking about "President Kerry" - sorry, but that scares the bejeezus out of me.

Personally, I don't like the changes Congress made in the overtime law, even though it doesn't affect me (probation officers are exempt, just like firefighters), but there are much more important issues, IMHO.
