Re:Need to Vent

Foreign objects on the road that hit your truck, cause damage is covered un Comprehensive part of insurance.

At one time I drove to work for several miles on same route as all aggregrate trucks with their transfer loads. Until the 90s the would load them uprounded on top them soak em with a shower before they pulled out the gate. by the time they were up to 60 mph gravel was flying off the back end with a cloud.

In a 6 month period I lost three windshields. Insurance was not happy but they replaced them.

Finally Insurance lobby won out over truckers lobby in legislature. All trucks must be covered or well below the top of bed. The exception to this is the lumber trucks.

As much as I hate to have anyone else touch my truck, it may come to that extreme to find a place to do it like it want it done. No cuts, no smears, no big grease spots on the seat and all that.

Java has some truck magnets I need to pick up anyway.

Here's a picture of the sticker not yet laminated to the magnetic (it's lying on my desk).

Re:Need to Vent

When something falls off a truck or the truck kicks it up, you get the license number or truck number and they pay for it. Especially large companies.

If it is kicked up off the road and causes damage, it is considered a road hazard. You are on your own then. If you have a zero deductible on your comp. insurance, it cost nothing to have a windshield replaced. If not you pay the deducible and they will make up any difference. Bummer, but thats how it goes sometimes.

Re:Need to Vent

You wanna hear about bad luck... I got a story for y'all. About this time last year, I took my truck to a car wash to get prettied-up. I go there all the time and they do a real nice job, never had a bad experience. Well, I'm paying for my wash as the truck is going through the conveyor and all of a sudden I hear this BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG. I think to myself "****, I hope that ain't my truck". It was. Somehow that big wheel with the cloth strips grabbed a strap out of my bad and started beating the buckle against the side *OUCH*. Put 67 dents in my truck. What really ticked me off, other than the car wash owner not wanting to pay for it (he did pay), was that I was on my way to pick up a parade float to pull right through the center of town THAT DAY!!!! This story gets even worse... I went to get the float and only then did I realize that some butthole actually took the time to CUT the lock and steal my hitch insert. Whoooeeee... what a bad day!!!
Haven't gotten the dents fixed yet, got a sick Camaro I'm concentrating on now. Soon
-Dave

Re:Need to Vent

turboblue, getting a license number off a truck is easier said than done when you are travelling @ 65mph on a busy freeyway in rush hour traffic. Many of the "Transfer trailers" have so much mud on license that they are impossible to read. Once you have a valid license you must contact the company personally to make a claim. Many of these companies (their drivers) deny this could have happened. You have no evidence, the object a piece of gravel, long gone. The highway patrol will take a report if you go to the station. Too many wasted hours in an attempt that usually doesn't succeed.

Been there, done that. :'( :'(
In each case where gravel broke my windshield the trucks that dropped the gravel were long gone. Another vehicle picked ut the gravel on the road.

Save your time, pay deductible, make ins. claim.
:'(

Re:Need to Vent

To finish the original story on this thread, I contacted my insurance company, and took it to a body shop. $1000.00 damage. Needs: new grill, hood and fender repainted, new decaling (see pics in member photos) two new sets of fog lamps, new wind deflector, etc., etc., etc. $200.00 deductable. It could have been a lot worse, someone could have been hurt, it could have been a log instead of Durrock. Now, I want my truck fixed YESTERDAY! Oh, well, another of God's lessons in patience. Thanks all of you guys and Java for your "listening" and advice.

DeWain

Re:Need to Vent

DPG,

I see on your sig. you have a PacBrake on your truck. I was wondering how you like it? It looks like PacBrake for 2003s will be ready at least one month before Dodge/Cummins e-brake. One of the local shops is a PacBrake dealer. It would be nice to give him the business.

Re:Need to Vent

Phil:

I love the Pacbrake! I had it installed last summer just before towing in the mountains and it works great. I leave it on most all of the time, even when not towing. I really like it now that it's cold, as I can start the beast and let it idle to warm up, and it actually warms up. The brake does make the truck a little squirrely in the snow

Thanks, DeWain. I had heard many good reports about the PacBrake. Hearing it from you I know its not just bragging.

I definately want one as soon as possible since everywhere I go is either up or down. I have been in contact with PacBrake Customer Service and this week the 2003 Ram Kit will be at their dealers Jan 1. Planning on trip to Alaska late spring towing our 5er. Must have by then.
