Need to Vent
Need to Vent
Last night my daughter and I were driving (in my baby) to a regional girls basketball game. I'm following a UPS truck when it drives over some construction trash on the road. It turns out to be a 2x4 foot piece of that underlayment used behind tile walls, you know, it's like drywall, but it's concrete sheet over a reinforcing screen. Anyway, this piece of crap flies up off the highway and explodes against the front of my truck. Sounds like a gunshot. It destroyed one fog lamp in the air dam, broke the bracket holding the OEM fog lamp, cracked the chrome (stupid plastic!) grill, and left scratches on the front and side of the the hood, the plastic bumper cap and the air dam. :'( I'm going to a body shop tomorrow to see what it will cost to have the hood either buffed out or repainted. I guess I really don't need any help. I just needed to tell you guys the story to help me feel better. I take EXTREME care of my truck, like most of you guys, and even thought this could have been much worse, I HATE seeing those scratches.<br><br>DeWain
Re:Need to Vent

I just hate it when that happens. I was following a log truck about a week ago that had just pulled out on the road. Of course you know they really clean those things off real good before they pull out on to the road (YEAH RIGHT). There was bark and pieces of skidder tire and mudd and dirt and stumps and bulldozer tracks and everything else coming off that truck and I had no way to get around at this point. :
I backed off for a mile or so till I could get around him, not getting hit with any of the flying refuse at this point. I finally got to a point to where I could get around, successfully ducking all of the flying debris, so I passed him up thinking OK, I'm good now. :P All of a sudden, KERWHACKA
, here comes a stone the size of a bowling ball (actually about the size of your thumb) off the tire of a bus that had just pulled on to the road off a gravel lane in front of me. I saw it coming up over the hood straight towards the windshield and it looked like it was in slow motion. I now have a nive big star break in the middle to match the one that is almost directly in the line of sight on the drives side and the one on the passenger side. >

<br>Now, I hate to have windshields replaced because the last three that were replaced, the people screwed up al three of them. Left big smeary finger prints on the windshield column on one, cut the material on the windshield post on my wife's Fifth Avenue in three places, and all three of them leaked. :'(<br>So to make long story short, I am driving around with three breaks in my windshield till I find someone competant enough to replace it correctly. I may have to get top to come down and escort me to Windshields Are Us to keep me out of trouble. :-X

DD4X4, Wish you could drop my town. We got a glass shop that is excellent. They've done work for me and they are nothing but the best. They take pride in their work. I heard one of the shop foremen chewing out some poor soul for a sloppy job. They pre-inspect prior to release back to customer. If you ain't satisfied, they will make it right. True craftsmen. <br><br>~Dave

DD4X4:<br><br>That's really too bad!! The worst part is you can't get it fixed with any degree of certainy that the job will be done right. If you care to come to Traverse City, MI, there are a couple of really good glass shops here.<br><br>DeWain
Re:Need to Vent
As much as I hate to have anyone else touch my truck, it may come to that extreme to find a place to do it like it want it done. No cuts, no smears, no big grease spots on the seat and all that.
Java has some truck magnets I need to pick up anyway.

Re:Need to Vent
At least it will be free to replace it. I had mine broke and went to Farm B. They smiled and said we take care of things like this for free. I later found out that this is a law in the US.
