My dog was shot today
Jack, very glad and relieved to see that Jonah is recovering.
I'm not sure what prosecute to the fullest means for those children, but you may also want to recommend them to work in an animal rescue shelter for some community service. Might do their parents some good too.

As a dog owner of a corgi, a lab, and a rot it breaks my heart and pisses me off that parents do not know how to raise their kids anymore. I worship my animals and would give them a kidney if they needed it and for someone to do that to an animal that can't defend itself?.......That little ****** needs to have the the **** kicked out of him.....By the way, I'm really glad Jonah is OK.
I hope their parents and the law there know that animal cruelty is sometimes a warning of worse things to come. There's been a lot of research on bad guys, and the animal torture seems to be one of the more common behaviors.
Jack, I've watched this thread for the last couple of days. It has only been until now that I have been able to gain enough composure to send you my deepest sympathies!
I, as well as others have two dogs of my own. One was recruited for drug sniffing and I cound not keep up with the rigorous training.
Your dedication to this animal and the cause is to be commended.
It's only my opinion but, I feel the love, dedication and compassion you have shown for Jonah WILL out weigh the stupid, senseless acts of a couple of kids.
My family and I wish you and yours the best of luck,
Tom, Kelly and Marisa Feore

Dammit, I am just reading this thread for the first time today and sitting here reading this I can feel my blood start to boil. Jack I am VERY sorry to hear about this. What the heck is wrong with people these days. I got people around here where I live that will speed up instead of slow down if they see a dog in the road. I lost my best friend Rodney in december. It is the hardest thing I have ever gone through in my life. Some people think I am crazy for saying that, but I tell ya, that little fella was the best friend I had in the world. He went everywhere with us. It was mainly my fault to which makes it harder. I was out moving some round bales with the tractor and they were out runnin around with me and he must have gotten out on the gravel road in front of our farm which only see's about 3 cars a day and somebody hit him, we never saw who it was. But I tell ya what, if I ever found out who did it, God help me cause I don't know what I would do. I'll never forget holding him at the vet while he screamed in pain, his lungs were bleeding internally and they tried to drain them but it was to fast and we had to put him down. I'll never forget that day as long as I live. I am kinda holding a grudge against God for taking my best friend from me. He got himself a good dog. Stay strong Jack, don't stop fighting this. If more people like us would stand up for the rights of animals, and the punishment for such things as this was more harsh, maybe people would start to think before they did such stupid things. I hope that boy gets whats comin to him. Stay strong my friend, I'll be praying for you and your dog.
Jack,
I just read this today, and I must say I am deeply saddened by this. I am, however, very glad to hear Jonah is doing better. I hope by now he is back in his training routine, and doing well. Like many others, I would have resorted to physical violence when I found out who had shot my dog, so I am impressed with your handling of the subject. Hopefully the law will do the right thing, and make the offenders pay their due for what they have done. I am sure God is looking after the two of you, and may the recovery be swift and training be better than before. You are creating something very special, and my family wishes you the very best.

Good news from the vet. His eye is okay. The pupil thing is being caused by enflamation from being hit under the eye. There are no bb's lodged in his body anywhere. So now, once's he has healed, I have to work on his mental condition. I'm going to get him back into working routine soon so he doesn't slack off. Thank God for that news. whew!

The sweety in the pic below was my girl, the dog I thought I never would get attached too. She got me through some real trying times. We left her out to do her morning business one morning and four rotten mutts attacked her. They bit her full of holes all over and tore her pink sweater off. She was a show dog and had 25 ribbons before she was two so she didn't know how to fight or what to do. She couldn't walk for six months, they injured vertebra in her neck. I spent over $3000 getting her right again including taking her clear up to Marshall Va for acupuncture treatments five times. The same mutts tore up the deputy sherriffs cat after jumping across the fence to get to it.
We went to the town council and told them they would do something about the loose dogs or we would and walked out of the meeting. I won't tell you what else happened but the dogs went away. My baby got better after we worked with her and got her back in the river swimming again. Then two years later, she got bone cancer and the hardest thing I ever had to do was relieve her of her pain. Even the doctor was tore up because they got to know her real well and they all loved her too. That was a sad day and I will never forget her so I know how you feel.
I think if you continue to keep him busy, he will eventually forget or at least not remember too much of the incident. I have to wonder what they think when something like that is going on and why they would ever trust humans again you know. Imagine what kind of life that kid is destined for if he is going that already. I don't even want to think about it.
Keep us posted.

I'm sorry to hear about that, Joel. I know how it goes when putting a dog down. I had to do that with our collie about 5 yrs ago, and it wasn't easy. The one thing about dogs is that they don't judge. I would much rather be around animals then most people I know. Some people are great, but I think everyone on the planet has a degree of "evil" in them. I use that word lightly, you know what I mean. Animals don't have that, they just live, and they love you unconditionally no matter what you do. I think we have a lot to learn from them. I know I've learned a lot over the past couple of weeks with Jonah. It's amazing.
Yes, putting any pet down is one of the most gut-wrenching things one ever has to do.
And what makes it even more difficult is that IMO, you have to be there with the pet when they get the shot. That's the least one can do for the lifetime of love and devotion the pet freely gives it's owner. I want to be the last person my pet sees on this planet.
But next time that duty comes my way I will probably load up on some tranquilzers.

My best to Jonah.
