Jack make sure they're actually following the law. Read the laws that apply and see what they say and make sure they are doing what the law says. For example if the law says they may charge they kid and put him in jail is much different that is it says shall . May means they can, shall means they are compelled under the law to do certain things outlined in the law. So make sure you read the law sections that apply to these offenses. Most states have a database online you can search and looka t the law. If not you should be able to go to a law library and look at the code sections. If you need some more input PM me I have a buddy thats a deputy in NC but he's in Forsythe County.-Shawn

It sounds ridiculous I know, we, mostly the wife, could have forecast the result. Poor Jonah, BTW, how’s he doing? In my earlier post I said this will make your bond with Jonah stronger, and it will. My offer for you to bring Jonah along with the boys up here to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Viaduct, or the New River still stands. The boys and dogs can run loose and later maybe we could teach them how to properly handle a weapon and do some target shooting with Mom's permission of course. Although it may be too late to console us now, it might help the boy avoid more serious trouble later. Nathan

Glad to hear it Jack. Keep up the fight.

How about renting a billboard in town with a picture of the kid and a caption that says "Animal Abuser" I'm sure that there are quite a few people that know this story would put together the funds to pay for the sign. I know I will.

Jack-

Have you filed a small claims action for your $700 out of pocket expenses? Hang in there. We're ALL rooting for you.

Well, found out from the court today that they didn't have the full bill. Somehow, they lost it but I sent them an itemized copy again. Now, they are going to pursue the full amount, and approved it for court! So that's good news

And defense lawyers wonder why there seems to be so much public support for "draconian" manditory minimum sentences...

I forgot to update you guys on this. Both boys were convicted in early June. Both got probation, community service, and fines. Their parents also have to pay all court costs, full restitution, and all attorneys fees. It's funny because if they had just come over to apologize, it would have cost each parent about 200 bucks. Instead, they chose not to accept responsibilty, and now it cost them about 3k each.

They got what they deserved.

Great to hear the system DOES work.

Also better to hear that Jonah seems to have got past this incident with no ill effects.

Yep, he's completely healthy, and no mental effects as far as I can tell. He's pretty much fearless like he was before the incident

Jack,
good to hear that they got what they deserved. Nice looking pup. Have you finished the certification course with him yet? If these guys never loss their trust in you it doesn't take them long to recover from an incident like the one he had. We have military working dogs (MWDs) who have experianced worse and recovered their confidence in the handler. A good handler, or owner, who takes good care of the dog and has a good bond with the dog can bring them back around after bad experiances. Good luck.
