Re:Monthly Chainsaw Thread
Tried the det cord. Works real well but the neighbors don't like the EXCESSIVE noise.
We shot a 1000 meter long x 50 meter wide firing lane, here on post, a couple of months back. One shot. Don't remember how much we fired, but the entire sequence took just under 2 seconds. Probably 7-8 miles of the stuff. I think we exceeded the 40 lb limit.
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shortround out

Shortround,
I woulda paid bombing money to see that go off ;D

Y'all can have your Huskies - I'll stick to my Stihls. My 038AV with 18" bar is just about the right size for me to limb with as well as be able to tackle the larger stuff. My one-hand saw is my Dad's old 015L - thing is 22 years old and still runs like a charm. With its 14" bar I can cut one-handed if necessary and it will still whack large limbs handily if I use two hands to make it bite better.

Definitely need a chainsaw forum. Too many good stories involving potential life-threatening antics with chainsaws that could be told, I'm sure.
Re:Monthly Chainsaw Thread
Next thing ya know we will be having penguin and sheep forums... then a forum about putting sheep and penguins and chainsaws together....
. Maybe we need a random thought forum. ???

redram,
These folks don't like me doing demo work. We have engineers that spend days doing charge computations. I use one formula; P=E (plenty = enough). We had a 6 man crew stringing the cord. Took about 4 1/2 hrs to set up and less than 2 seconds to blow from end to end. Nice loud rumble, kinda like a mother earthquake. Two D-7 Cat's spent a week clearing debris. Talk about a bonfire!!
We had a demolition demonstration for a bunch of OCS pukes. We took five 55 gal drums of diesel fuel with a bit of gas mixed. Took a block of C-4 and placed under each barrel. Placed a couple of wraps of cord around the top and bottom. Cut the cord to length so that the top was cut first, bottom next, and then blew the C-4. The fireball was 265 meters across (measured) and over 500 meters high. Nice shock wave pattern. Looked a lot like a baby nuke. SPECTACULAR!!!
The Air Force thought a 130 went down. Had my heels locked in front of the old man on that one. He asked me why I had to go to such extremes with everything I did. I told him it was 'cause I didn't want to go back and do it over.
Just remember P=E

shortround out
Re:Monthly Chainsaw Thread
Careful there Shortround. You're gonna get Top ready to harness back up in the bdu's (if they still call them that) ready to show what an old fphart can do with a cane and some rather interesting chemical mixtures.
Every year here in town they have what they call "Logger's Sports"... One of the feature events is the V8 chainsaw competitions. They have to be handled by 3 huge gorillas... They make more noise than a Huey and they tear through a 3 foot cottonwood in about 1 second!!! I wonder if they'll ever put a 5.9L CTD on there? That might be neat ;D
A guy down the road from my cabin has a full hydraulic circular saw mill for his log home business. Driven by a CTD. Blade rips huge logs, now. Uses a lazer level set up to alignt the logs to the blade. Hydro dogs to roll the log for the best cutting angle.
Re:Monthly Chainsaw Thread
Love my Husky 55, which is a tinker toy compared to some mentioned in other posts. Friend has a Husky 3?? which will kick the 55's butt but cost a lot more.
My old Poulan (bought in 1980) is still running. I know Poulan is considered junk, but I can't kill this thing, and I don't even take good care of it. It's a little 25cc saw, but for little limbs (6" or less) it's a lot easier to use than the Husky.
Lot of people around hear swear by Stihl, probably more so than any other brand. If the Poulan ever dies, I want to take a good look at the little Echo in that size.

I'm getting lazy in my old age. ;D ;D
Seeing as we're making suggestions on new threads, how
about a chainsaw, logging, sawmill, wood processor, skidder thread? 8) 8)

I don't know about yours, but if I don't use up all the bar oil while running my poulan, it'll all leak out. Did that since new.
