The gage on my supply for the welder reads CFH (cubic feet per Hour). The adjustment regulates flow. I think the general spec is around 25 CFH, but I run mine a bit higher (30-35) due to I am outside and it is quite drafty most of the time. If I don't have enough gas in the tank to maintain that flow, I get it refilled.

run it till its empty you paid for the gas. when its empty your weld will turn into an areo bar, stop grind back and change out bottle.

Does anyone here weld aluminium with their meg welder, if so do you have problems with the wire nesting up?

I also run 35-40 CFH if I'm outside, and about 20-25 CFH inside with C25. I agree, run it until it's empty.

To do it right you need a push pull system or a spool gun similar to these :

I think you need straight argon too.

That's why most people run a spool gun with Aluminum.

What River Ram said and run your tank til it's dry. You'd be amazed at how far you can go with the needle bouncing off the peg in the gauge, hate to waste it. Actually all my tanks get used that way, 75/25, oxy/acet when it's out it's out.

I run my flow between 20-25, usually keep it around 20. You start cranking the **** up and your tank is gonna be at rock bottom in no time. If your outside you can crank it up to overcome the wind, I'll just throw in a spool of flux core and go on and no more wind troubles. If it comes to that though I'd rather poke it with the stick, a 7018 won't make near the mess that flux core mig wire does.

From Hobart, typical flow rate is 20 cfh (cubic feet per hour). Flow rate should be set when gas is flowing through welding power source and welding gun. This is what I use on mine.

Thanks guys...Got my PSI and CFH reversed.....I needed both questions answered....So I will run the tank empty (mix is 75/25 argon/CO2 mix) and set my gun CFH between 20 and 30 CFH....When I bought the mig years ago they told me to run only 10 CFH....Thats why my welds where not the best and I was getting warpage....Thx

In my opinion, the cost of gas is cheap relative to having to either re-weld your material, or live with weld degradation.

if you run out of gas porosity is immediately noticeable in your puddle and its a good practice to grind stop starts anyway. its not going to take 6 inches of weld to figure it out. i would be more concerned about welding with gmaw out side than running out of gas.

I do
You have to keep the cable as straight has possible.
If possible get a new liner as well.

Right now I'm running 75% argon and 25% CO2....Heard that running 100% argon is better for sheet metal. What are you guys running for a tank mix?
