Will be able to get things moving again and get on an early pay off with my goodies and set aside a "twins" fund for the new truck. This is a good decision, I can feel it and my stress level has dropped a lot in the last few hours. The govt job is ok,, not a fan of it by any means and caught a shop ripping us off BIG TIME today and the fits going to hit the shan tomorrow. I mean, why would a 08 duramax need all 8 glow plugs at 84k miles at CUSTOMER PAY WHEN ITS UNDER WARRANTY! I have an invoice highlighted all sorts and when he comes in tomorrow for another vehicle, its party time!

 

I totally agree with him. It is a HUGE thing folks. If you have a good service adviser and he is a straight shooter (everyone has their bad days of course) give them a TOP score (completely satisfied or 100%). Make sure he/she knows what you did (they get the report anyways and will know you did them good) but if he/she is having an off day and made ya mad, just don't fill it out OR give them top scores and then talk to him/her about what happened but you gave them great scores anyways. He/she will take care of you (if they are worth their weight and a good adviser). There are so many factors that influence a survey that is out of the advisers control. Like my example from earlier or a cashier that is being a turd, or another adviser, a sales person etc. I have even had someone grenade me on a survey because our waiting room was not BIG ENOUGH! REALLY? remember, the survey comes in 2 forms. A sales survey (when you buy a new rig) or a service survey (when you get service). The surveys are a HUGE portion of the advisers pay and when I lost that much money for something I had no control of it sent me over the edge. Good thing I have side money coming in and was able to cover the bills for that month but I sure did make my opinion known to the director.

 

so glad to hear the stress levels went down! straight financial dependable income eases the way too.....AND you are not an 18 year old with no life experience. good good good

now I know why no dealers around here participate in the survey.....eye opening. thank you for that.

I'll give you a shout when I can about my mods .... I'm now doing base planner/outside plant, I brief at the 0-5/GS-14 level and higher (both military and civilian), attend 10 meetings a week, and a few other things I won't openly discuss due to the nature of the topic.

I just built a 40X50 shop on my property so I can have a nice place to work on my trucks, so if you end up here, you're more than welcome to come over and work on your truck and have a few cold ones with me. We'll get those twins on when you get the money.

About 4 years ago I got started in a new occupation that was supposed to be a part time job as I now am 63. This job has turned into a full time job and one that I enjoy. I get along well with the owner/boss and he challenges me and keeps pushing me into areas that I would never have imagined I would enjoy.
Your new career will be far more physically challenging then what I am doing. But I bet you will have some young whipper snappers shaking their heads at what you can do even though you are older.
It will be a breath of fresh air and who knows where it will take you.

Thanks Jason and Stan. I was on a commercial and residential fresh water rig 20 years ago and still engrained into my head so the training that I am doing now is coming back like it was yesterday. Looking forward to using my skills and making a good living

 

Whatever your situation, do not behave or work like those idiots on Black Gold.
I have been in the oil field for almost 30 years now. Safety is a top priority for us. Those idiots on Black Gold will get someone hurt bad or killed. They give the oil industry a bad image. Working safe is working smart. If the company you hire on with, behaves like they do on that show, run far away.
If a rig crew behaved like that on one of our facilities, they would all be on the next boat or helicopter to the beach.
The oil patch has been very good to me and has provided a good living for my family. I have been through several cycles over the years of boom and bust, but have always kept a job. I hope you enjoy your new line of work.

 

Thanks Mike. Hired on with Patterson UTI. they called me friday and bumped up my report date from the 4th of December to the 28th of this month. Looking forward to it.
