Got a friend doin a service on a 79 merc with a C6 orC4 not sure. He dropped the pan to replace the filter and found a plastic thing that looked like a kids top toy. He says the filter/pickup tube stay in place with a O ring and the pan actually holds it in place. He`s wondering if the plactic thing he found is supposed to go in the pickup tube assembly or? anyone familiar with ferd trannies.

 

it's a plug that's knocked in after assembly. frightening thing is it sounds like the pan's never been off! LOL!

After he talked with some ferd mechanics he knows he was told its a plug thats put in the dip stick tube for shipping. When the dipstick is installed at the dealer it knocks it out and it just floars around in the trans pan. Yeah a 79 that the pans never been off. like to see the fluid.
