Manhattan
Hey, I'm going to be in mid-town Manhattan for a week while SWMBO attends some firewall training. Truckless, which is just as well from what I've seen of New York traffic.
We're planning on seeing some of the more obvious sights on Saturday and Sunday, but the rest of the week I'll be on my own pretty much all day. Anybody have any suggestions of less-obvious cool stuff I should plan on seeing while I'm there? I can probably manage to find my way around on the subways if I study a little bit, or there's always taxis, of course.

For starters, go pick up a Frommes book at the bookstore for some ideas. Take some REALLY comfortable shoes.
I think you can still get the all-day subway passes for $4 - works on the busses too.
You can hang out and try and get on Letterman in the evening, or get up early and visit with Al Roker at NBC.
The Met, Times Square, Central Park, Lady Liberty, walk the Brooklyn Bridge, Yankees/Mets might be in town; Chinatown, hop in a cab and tell him to "step on it!" - FYI - you may need to be wearing brown pants for that trip. Saw a movie being filmed at the Tribeca Grand, and a couple of music videos. If you're bored, have a beer onboard the Staten Island Ferry and just take a ride.
Lots of stuff do to while you're there.
BTW, the Beast was great in Manhattan traffic! Rev it up and the mass of people clear out from in front of you.
