Looking for first Diesel

I am in the process of looking at buying my first diesel pu. I have always been a Ford guy, but I really like the CTD. I would like to know if there are things I should be looking for or aware of while looking. I'm looking at used 99-01 CTD's. I would prefer the 6-Spd Manual and HO setup, but am open to just about anything right now. What are the oil and filter change intervals on the diesels, what about fuel filters. What other maintenance items compared to gas engines are there? I know most of the standard items, trans. fluid, coolant, brakes etc., just wondering what else there is to take care of on a diesel. I have been reading the posts and have learned alot, not enough yet though, and really appreciate the members and information on this board. Thanks

Re:Looking for first Diesel

Welcome to the site. Obviously I am biased but go with the CTD. I followed the Dodge "B" schedule originally. 3500 oil/filter , 12,500 fuel filter. Just switched to synthetic oil, probably going to change oil @ 10,000 and filter @ 5000 from now on. Be prepared for your 1st oil change if you are used to gassers, these hold 12 qts. About the biggest thing you got to watch on 24v's is the lift pumps which can seemingly go bad at any time. When they go the injector pump overworks and eventually goes south, about a $1500.00 repair if off warranty. Just put a fuel pressure guage in and you'll be OK. Overall if you follow maintenance schedule these things are pretty trouble free. Good luck!
Tim
PS I didn't see where you are from. If you are in a cold climate, don't let tank go low in winter.
