Now that's funny................ I don't think there is another word in the English language that has a ditty to learn it like Mississippi.......

 

When I was a kid (a century ago) my dad augmented my language abilities by playing "proofread the newspaper" with me. It was a bit of work to find errors back then, though not as much as it should have been.

"Professional" English has deteriorated a couple of orders of magnitude since then.

 

Spell it the way it sounds. In some places, that's the way it sounds. Like "worsh" vs "wash".

BTW, your avatar kills me. Big Lebowski is one of my favorite movies, and when I hear someone say Cummings, I about lose my mind. Seems to find my last nerve every time. There was an advertisement on my local classic rock station for the Dodge dealer. The DJ kept saying Cummings in it. After about 2 days of hearing that played I had to call and complain. The Dj told me he had gotten hundreds of people calling to correct him. He was leaving it as is because he got a kick out of it.

 

Sounds like bad publicity is better than no publicity
