This is Joel from Claremont Virginia, right across the water from you.
Have you joined Chapter 7 yet and why not?
Was just over there to the big Bass Pro shop last weekend and ate at Applebees. Is that 64 interchange a mess or what? That place had been tore up since I first came down here in 73.

Hey Diesel Dude, I was going to join Chapter 7. But I don't have a truck anymore. I got in an accident. So I dont really have anything to join with. I do have a TDi Golf. I have full intentions of getting another truck. But I am young and stupid and my insurnance is stupid high. I am just going to wait a year when some things clear off my record. Oh yeah, I like like 4 miles from the bass pro shop. I work on Aberdeen (sp) road. That 64 interchange is going to be the death of me. I have to deal with that crap everyday all day. Luckly, I dont have to travel though the tunnel any more. My ship is in the ship yards.

You can still join even if you are thinking about buying another one.

Remember Newport News Shipyard and Dry Dock Company very well. Was part of the Pre Commissioning Unit on the USS Virginia, CGN-38, in 75 and 76. Hated the entire tour. Must have been something about the color of the paint. My preference of ship colors is black.
Spent some time across the river at Dam Neck. Off and on from 68-70.

Black is (or was) what you paint the tops of the stacks and radars with!

I spent four years in the engineroom of the USS Iwo Jima LPH 2. Also the one that picked up Apollo 13.
Some of my sub buddies told me they had a special name for surface ships. TARGETS.

Any surface ship that is not a carrier is a "missile sponge". (Standing orders were to get in between the carrier you were operating with and any incoming missile/torpedo's aimed for it).

I really enjoyed being on subs. Totally different attitude from the "skimmer" Navy. The only haze gray vessels that came close were the little guys, PG's and such. The crews were much smaller, ~35, and you didn't have the "nuc" superiority complex to deal with.

shortround,

I always thought the undersea navy was cool as all get out. But I dont see how you guys could take the 90 days underwater, in close confines, without there being some kind of friction amongst yourselves.
Did you ever have personality conflicts, or are the "problems" weeded out by the psycologists?
I mean, I love my old lady, been together 26 years....... But being locked up with her in a steel tube for 90 days? Huh uh.

Also, that cap'n that sideswiped the undersea mountain....... Even if shown he is not strictly at fault...... He'll still get washed out, wont he?
