Funny how alike both groups are isn't it?

Those who think the Muslim extremists and Christian right-wingers (like me) have anything in common are the same bunch that believes that Islam is a peaceful religion and we only need to extend our hand in friendship so they'll understand we want to be buddies.

Christians don't indulge in honor killings of sisters or daughters who were raped. Christians don't have a "convert-or-die" policy. Christians don't believe that a woman brings rape or sexual use upon herself by doing something so seductive or alluring as showing more than her eyes in public. A Christian woman doesn't need four independent male witnesses to testify that she was raped rather than seduced a man. The Bible doesn't teach that a man is blameless for sexually attacking a woman. The Bible doesn't teach that Christians are superior to all others and all non-Christians are to be used as cattle, subjugated or killed.

Study the teachings in the Koran- the peaceful teachings are in the beginning and the hateful xenophobic teachings are in the second book. The second book supercedes the earlier teachings. The koran teaches muslims to pursue and kill the Jews wherever they are found. The koran teaches that women are mere chattel. A man can be overcome with lust at the sight of a woman's flesh and the blame falls on the woman for seducing him.

The Bible teaches the opposite- crime and punishment are outlined in the Old Testament; they are replaced by God's mercy and grace in the New Testament. We are not taught to pursue and kill nonbelievers wherever they hide. We are shown by Jesus' example to extend the gift of God's forgiveness in love.

So snicker away while you intellectualize the supposed similarities between muslim extremists and Christian extremists. Congratulate each other while your new muslim buddies charge you exorbitant interest rates (the koran says it's OK, just not to fellow muslims) and plot your eventual subjugation to shariah law.

By the way, muslims are the most racist people on the planet; they put the aryan brotherhood to shame when it comes to hating. Did you know that Arab muslims call black muslims "pug-nosed slaves"?

People have said that "Islam" means "Peace". It does not. A more accurate translation is "Subjugation". When all people are under islamic rule, mohammed's goal will have been fulfilled. Islam.

While I do not exactly parallel Evangelicals with Extremist Muslims, I will say this.

They are the ONLY other people who are as ideologically rigid as the Muslim.

I am called an Intolerant person. I am Intolerant because I will not tolerate those who are intolerant of another religious view.

Make any sense?

Sorry; no. Christians aren't intolerant of people who don't share our views. We proselytize (sp?) and preach, but we don't kill, maim or enslave those who don't believe the way we do. Muslims, however, are commanded to do these things and more.

"Progressives" are also very rigid- they will tolerate anything except for prayers to Jesus, acknowledgement that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, people should have to work for anything they get and the federal government should not be involved in the citizens' day-to-day lives. obama is the greatest example of this NeoProgressivism- he said the National Day of Prayer should be observed privately, then later invited a boatload of muslims to spend the day prone in prayer in DC.

Six cheers for obama! six cheers for islam! Six cheers for Progressivism!

I don't believe obama is THE antichrist... but he's definitely one of them.

Funny, my sister had a Jewish boyfriend who's parents wouldn't let marry her, because she wasn't jewish. All religeons have orthodox extremists. Some just get more publicity.

Way to kill a thread. There IS merit to the claim that Muslim extremist and Christan extremist are alike. But a basic right winger? Naw. Not all Christians support the Westbros, and not all Muslims support shariah law.

But this is a discussion where a forum like here is too much of a communication barrier to rightfully debate an overwhelmingly personal topic. Threads like that always self destruct by the way of quotes, double quotes and triple quotes (Makes it so hard to read and comprehend and you end up jumping around trying to follow the point or counter-point.), unsubstantiated claims, and it boiling down to what peoples viewpoints are without giving weight to cultural, regional, and degrees of religious involvement. Those details are also in flux all the time.

It probably has happened already, but when will there be a big news story about a Imam tweeting crap about western cultural influence and advocating boycotts. On his Blackberry.

You should probably edit this to read "all Christians". As a blanket statement, it is easy for a reader to be reminded of the different Inquisitions of the Catholic Church. Then of course, the very beginings of America was a result of people of faith escaping religious persecution in Europe, from, wait for it... Christians. Long ago history you say? Think modern day Ireland, Protestant vs Catholic. Is this what Jesus had in mind? I think not.

The big difference to point out, in my opinion, is that at the core of the teachings (Bible vs Koran-- Jesus vs Mohammed) Jesus taught of love for your fellow man. Mohammed to kill or convert by force your fellow man.

The rest is all corruptions of mankind.

That one does not work, don't you know Catholics pray to idols and thus are not christian! I was told that was fact from a self professed Christian on this site. I guess it all depends on what sect you belong to.

Point taken that I should've used a modifier to prevent someone from thinking that 100% of Christians are peaceful adherents. There are nutjobs in evey faction that will twist words to mean different things to support their own ideology. Problem is, islam doesn't need any twisting- it's "off the shelf" ready-for-use twisted.

Redleg- your friend's girlfriend wasn't prevented from marrying him, she chose her parents over your buddy. Same thing happened to me- I had a culturally and religiously Jewish girlfriend whose parents hated me because I was a threat to their prospective grandchild's cultural purity.

It worked out way better for me anyway.

Soulzoo- it was other than Protestant v. Catholic; you're confusing correlation with causation. Latter day Ireland was more about taxation without representation or national sovreignty than religion.

You know the really cool thing?

We all came here in peace, aired our thoughts, and no one was whacked.

Wonder if the characters of South Park will be so lucky......
