1. The overdrive hasnt worked for 8yrs.
2. Speedometer dont work.
3. powersteering and brakes suck.
4. steering wheel is sloppy but all knuckles and joints are good.
5. the voltage meter meter bounces and headlights flicker.

Frame is probably cracked, (broken), behind steering box.

Something is loose and if you don't fix it, it will be broken too.

Did I help?

Seriously tho, I loved my 93. And the broken frame I mentioned happened on mine, which is why I mentioned it. The overdrive COULD be an issue with the TPS. They are known to

Yeah that helps! I've got a good idea about alot of it except the overdrive problem. figured the regulator in the alternator is bad since its the original. the steering box is very sloppy, but I'll check the frame to. The brakes are very soft. I'm looking for opinions, all opinions!

I believe the regulator in that year is a part of the ECM. I've heard a lot of the guys here talking about installing an external regulator in order to avoid replacing the ECM. When it happened in mine tho, it was the wire that ran from the alternator to the ECM. It had an intermittent break right behind the windshield washer tank.

Manually adjust the rear brakes and see if that brings them up. I wish I would have known you were looking for a project truck.

Ahem. You may not have noticed, being all fancy with the 98.5 and everything, but there's a whole forum (tucked away in a dark corner) where all your questions can be answered. All these over-valved, coil springy guys are going to do is give you a bunch of hoo-haw.

Walk towards the light...

Overdrive needs a few things in order to work, the PCM needs a signal from the speed sensor and a signal from the TPS.

This is most likely the speed sensor or parts that are related to the speed sensor like the speed reducer adaptor.

Awsome JD730! now I now where to start. I'm starting to think the PCM has some issues cause the volt guage goes all sorts of crazy to.

That (and some of the other issues) could be related to a bad ground. Not uncommon on the 1st gens. Might be the cheap place to start.
