Question How to strip windshield of Rain-X

Anyone know how to get rid of Rain-X ? Its got to the point where I see lots of streaks and spots. Glass cleaner doesn't seem to do much of anything. Anybody got an idea?

My auto glass guy told me nothing gets it off, makes chip repair impossible. I'm taking his word for it though.

Here it is straight from the horses ahhh.. mouth:

Rain-X® Glass Treatment can be removed from exterior glass by using either Rain-X® Glass Polish or Bon-Ami Cleaning Powder or Soft Scrub cleaner (you can find this at any supermarket). If you cannot find this product, Bon-Ami Cleanser - a different product - can be used, only if you add enough water to make it a "soapy" solution). If you require further assistance or have any additional questions, please call 1-800-416-1600.

Bon-Ami is an old timer's trick that has been used many, many years to clean windshields. It really works and doesn't scratch...

Bon-Ami is the only approved method to clean glass laboratory slides in any lab I ever used -- College, Hospital, Private! The cleaner doesn't scratch the glass or cover slips, but leaves them crystal clear!

i don't know that anyone is saying rain x is no good. i have used it for years and still do. i recently installed a set of piaa wipers and they are the true answer to these dodge windsheild/wiper problems.
i have never been faced with the problem of having to strip my windsheild, but for the benifits it gives i guess if i had to i would consider it about the same as having to wash the road grime off the truck body

one of the worst "culprits" for those streaked windsheilds is the clearcoat /spot free applications that is used in the automatic drive tru car washes

Herb, I've found that Rain-X works great when it's fresh, and if I renew it frequently. As long as there's enough water, or if I have a decent flow of air across the windshield, you don't even need the wipers. I've driven in rain so hard that people were parked on the side of the road while I continued on at a safe speed all the while without using the wipers! It's when you start to use the wipers that it begins to wear off, and leaves a foggy water film as they cycle. I've found that some blades will hop and squeak too.

I've had wiper skipping/hopping on my vehicles and no longer use it there but, I do use RainX on the windows of my power boat. It needs to be refreshed every couple of weeks to make it work properly. The boat does not have windshield wipers but I can see much better with RainX than my fellow boaters can with windshield wipers. The nice thing about RainX is that you can see thru the entire windshield - not just where the wipers sweep. Incidentally, I boat on the Chesapeake Bay where there is salt water, rough waves and lots of spray.

"Bar Keeper's friend" works well at making the glass smooth again...
