How much to spend on LP Gas Grill?

got a $300 grill from Home Depot, the wheel broke off while unloading it

went back, got a char broil 463420509 for $270 or so
not what i wanted, but only others in store were $500 webers

read the reviews on it after i got home, it's a RUST bucket waiting to happen

should i return it and pop the 5 bills for a weber

our last charbroil lasted ~5 years, but i had to put burners in it once already,
and it never has been "right"
the regulator would ice up or something, and it would stop flowing gas.

i just hate buying a piece of crap, then having to work on it while 10 people wait for burgers, or having to replace parts all time

having about a dozen house guests this weekend

save you looking for them

I would have told HD to fix it, replace it, loose a customer.

I have a Preway grill that is connected to natural gas. its mostly cast aluminum.

she did fix the one with the broke wheel, i had bought a metric butt ton of other stuff while i was there before.

and she was like "oh heck no, we ain't selling junk here...take this broken grill and send it back to the vendor...we work too hard to get customers to have them send us crappy grills"

so she made SURE i was happy....
and I was pretty much, till i read the reviews about the replacement grill getting rusty.

my grills sets out in the back yard, in the weather. so i dunno how that replacement char-broil will last.

it is more sheet metal than anything else
my other grills have all been the cast aluminum, and that part seems to last forever, but the burners & stuff wear out

the last sheet metal grill I had was one of those little round Webers. It lasted for a good 10 years. I dunno about Char-broil. Im gonna keep rebuilding my current grill till they stop making parts.

I know you dont want to speed a fortune, but, Look at Thermal enginering co. The grill is called Patio. The price is ( might want to sit down) $1000. I know, I know, I am crazy. But this grill is the best I have owned. It has sat outside for about 10yrs and ( if I clean it) looks brand new. Lots of accesories can be added. The burners are stainless/ceramic infrared.

If there ever was a product that I had to push. This is it, I can't say enough good things about it

I have had a Vermont Castings Gas Grill for about 5 years now, it sits outside uncovered and have had zero problems or replacement issues with it. Not sure if their even in business anymore though.

A 500 dollar weber with stainless grates will last you at least ten years

I have one also. I was sick with having to pay $1000.00 bucks for it, but after 8 years of reliable service and all without a hint of rust I would say money well spent.

At first I thought this thread was a joke or something. $500 for a grill is insane, but then I read $1000! Maybe I'm out of touch with reality or something, but when you figure these things are not much more than a burner assembly, a grate and a cover, all on wheels, (that apparently fall off!), how can anyone justify spending that kind of money? Could I tell the difference between a steak cooked on my $50 grill as opposed to one of the $500 units?

i don't think there is any difference in taste, but half the time, i can't cook on mine because some peice is rusted out, or the regulator freezes up.

and replacing a $50 grill every year or so adds up to $500 pretty quick.

i am just fed up with paying $270 or so every 3 or 4 years to be able to grill out without any drama. that adds to up $1000 pretty quick.

basically, it's "pay me now, or pay me later"

there is a place that sells these, but there is no price listed... just "bill me later" ....yikes, how much can they be?

If I was going to spend $1000 on a grill, I'd go out to eat.

This is the updated one from what I have. http://www.myownbbq.com/content/prod...ils.cfm?id=353 They have a lifetime replacement on the burners, grates, and valves. Believe me, I was not happy with dropping that kind of money, but after replacing this and that every year it wound up costing me more. So I bit the bullet and did it. Even cooking all the way around, rear rotisserie burner with all accessories and a side burner. I even clear it off in the snow so I can use it. It also sits outside uncovered all year.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I've got the BIG grill from Sam's club. It's a Kirkland brand or what ever their generic brand is but it's made by weber. Stainless, inferred burner, ceramic plates etc. nice and even heat. 6 Years old and not one issue. ~$600 at the time.

I have a stainless Charbroil (commercial series) that sits out year round (rain, sun, snow.) Gets covered if I remember. I think this is the 4th summer and so far everything seems to be going well. I did pull burners this spring and clean them up a bit. They do appear to be wearing some but should have a few more years before I have to purchase replacements. So far that seems to be the only part that I may have to replace periodically.

I think the steaks would taste the same, but their is a big difference between a 50 grill and a VCast. If hes tired of replacing parts then spend a little extra $ and get a quality grill.
