How To Clean A Swimming Pool

I rehab houses and I got one that has a 16 x 24 x 3 above ground Doughboy. The pump & filter work fine after I replaced some broken (frozen) parts. It has a Nature2 chlorine system and I need to change the cartridge. How do you test the water and stuff to get it going? Any tips on getting the agle off the walls? I have vacuumed up a ton of junk off the bottom and it is in fairly good shape.

Any good tips?

Pool chem. store will have a test kit to test pH level. Probably need to "shock" it to get rid of the algae. They would be the best source to tell you what to do based on the readings from the kit.

I have a 15000 gal above ground and I dont pay anyone to "TEST" my water. I believe it is a hoax to get you to pay cash for PH+ this and PH- that. Just my opinion. When uncovering my pool after winter I dump 5 1lb bags of shock in and a full bottle of 50% algaecide. I keep a floater in the pool with at least five 3" chlorine tablets in it at all times. Pool clears from nasty dark green to crystal clear in three days. Just scrub the side walls with a brush on a pole and do the same for the bottom. If you do not have some type of auto pool sweeper then you will have to vacuum everyday. I use about four ounces of the algaecide weekly for maintenance, 1 1lb bag of shock monthly for maintenance and chlorine tablets as necessary. My pool is always sparkling clean. Hope that helps. If you want more info or brands them PM me.

Have a pool party for kids, lots of kids.

Pour the SKI or Mountain Dew to them, prior to swimming.

The outcome of this is almost pure ammonia.

The water will be yellow for a couple of days; but, after a few days of sun and circulating, all traces of algae, etc. will be gone.

Also, whenever in the water, remember, the same water you have your mouth and nose in, is the same water that is swirling around that fat guy's hind end.

One more reason why I stay dry.

I guess that is one way to look at it.

I choose to ignore the big hairy guy and enjoy my 90+ degree day in the comfort of my own pool!

That sounds like a recipe for toxic waste.
Do get in the same water or do you just do that to clean it and then drain it?

We now have the pool ****'s mosquito squadron that fly around in helicopters and look for pools with green water and seek you out.

I can assure you it is not toxic waste. My kids swim in it almost daily and we havnt had any extra arms or eyeballs grow yet. Advice was asked for and advice was given. Use it or not, your choice.
