It's a little different out here. Where you can come over a hill and see the highway out ahead of you for the next 5-10 miles and can easily plan ahead to proact to something up ahead. Trouble is that people tend to pass you as you start to back it down and run into it anyhow, but that's their problem, as you've got plenty of room to do your thing when they do theirs.

Oh, and up there to North Dakota, you can pull off, get up on a bridge and see what, 30+ miles out, on I-94, it's so flat and straight?

If he's talking about pulling trailers with pick ups, he's right. I saw at least 6 of them on the way up here tonight, all going over 70 and none of them realizing what they had behind them for weight. I kept hoping for a deer to jump out in front of them or something just to watch the show.
The next problem is those who have no idea they are operating outside the capability of their vehicle. I saw a Suburban pulling a boat west into Knoxville once, it was stacked full, the boat was stacked full, and as soon as they got over 60, it started to sway. By the time they hit 65 they were using two lanes and I don't know how they kept it straight, and had to back it down under 55 to get control again. Common sense would tell you to keep it at 60, but not this guy, he kept winding it back up again. The real kicker is they were following another Suburban that was empty except for 3 people in it.

Also had a 1/2 ton Chevy pass me on I94 west of Kalamazoo, pulling a little utility trailer that was probably about big enough for a pushmower, he'd do good for a ways then the tail would wag the dog, at least he was far enough ahead when it started I already had room to avoid him if need be.

It's been proven that if you set the speed limit on a highway at the speed that the majority of people travel at, some of the faster ones will slow down, the slower ones speed up a little, and once the speed differentials (that would be the difference between the speed of the fastest vs the slowest cars) are reduced, the chance of accidents greatly decreases. Split speed limits are the most bass-ackswards thing that was ever invented as far as safety is concerned. It's not the speed that causes wrecks, but the differences in speed.

Limiting trucks to the two lanes against the ramps where traffic is entering and exiting the freeways isn't far behind split speed limits, either.

That's I94 somewhere a little west of Bismark.
It's said that Custer passed between these buttes north of Dickinson on his way to the Little Big Horn.

Morning folks! I have a thought for you this morning. Even if you get here last, you are now a part of history to the next person who visits here.

I need sleep!

Actually, I was pulling yer leg about the brakes. Good, well adjusted brakes on all wheels. Also had a strong and straight dually for a tractor, and enough load on the well lubed fifth wheel to keep it tracking true.

I will ditch that <explicative deleted> pendulum controller and put on an analog hydraulic one before I hitch up to the fiver again.

Did hundreds of miles on Montana two lane curvy split limit roads on this trip. Cars lined up behind me like little ducklings, and no "pullout ahead" signs so by the time I spotted one, I couldn't get into it without a couple of the ducklings hitting me in the donkey. Frustrating for all.

I need two mods before the next trip, an air horn and a deer crusher bumper.

Yes. Like 65mph and stopped, BIG difference there!

Well, sitting here in a conference room at the Hotel Kellogg in Lansing. Nice hotel, great staff, lousy coffee. Tastes like a brown crayon was dipped in luke warm water. The 10 sugar packs added more taste to it than the coffee did!

Today is Monday, September 9th.

1776 - The second Continental Congress officially made the term "United States", replacing the previous term "United Colonies."

1836 - Abraham Lincoln received his license to practice law.

1926 - The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) was created by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA).

1942 - Japan dropped incendiaries over NE in an attempt to set fire to the forests in Oregon and Washington. The forest did not ignite.

1943 - During World War II Allied forces landed at Taranto and Salerno.

1983 - The Soviet Union announced that the Korean jetliner the was shot down on September 1, 1983 was not an accident or an error.

1986 - Frank Reed was taken hostage in Lebanon by pro-Iranian kidnappers. The director of a private school in Lebanon was released 44 months later.

1994 - The space shuttle Discovery blasted off on an 11-day mission.

1998 - Four tourists who had paid $32,500 each were taken in submarine to view the wreckage of the Titanic. The ship is 2 miles below the Atlantic off Newfoundland.

1999 - The Sega Dreamcast game system went on sale. By 1:00pm all Toys R Us locations in the U.S. had sold out.

2008 - The iTunes Music Store reached 100 million applications downloaded.

2009 - The iTunes Music Store reached 1.8 billion applications downloaded.

Today's thought:
Lazy people actually accomplish more. Their laziness enables them to find the easiest and quickest ways to get things done.

Coffee's on.

I'll be around. Maybe.

Morning yall. Boy, this Miami time sure is fast. It is already 1030am! I got in a workout this morning, got all pumped up. Hitting the shower and then DH will get back from the new office (he's doing half days) then we'll grab lunch and meet our realtor for the first round of houses. Since we weren't too happy with what the ones looked like yesterday we bumped up the search and got a new list to hit. Least it boosted our excitement again.

I can't believe how close together and how small the driveways are. My poor truck would be a fat guy in a little coat. Boy, realtors have some great camera lenses that add square footage to houses LOL

JWBM, neighbors of the house we pick better watch out.

Good morning all y'all. I haven't had much time to post lately but I am sure that hasn't upset anyone too much. My sister and her two daughters were out at our place for the weekend. The nieces are good kids but when you don't have kids of your own, 7 and 9 year old girls just wear you out....
I made my first attempt at killing a ground wasp nest last night. I think I did a good job but I won't know for certain until I go out this evening to check again. I looked like an alien heading out with the wasp bomb - I had tall boots, heavy pants, leather gloves, a flannel coat and a bee-keeprs hat on. They all did their job though and I didn't get a single sting. If the nasty wee monsters are dead then it was all worth it.

I am glad to see things are about normal around here. Some folks are happy, some are cantakerous, some are on the move and about no one is working hard. Sitation normal!!!

Have a good day everyone and play safe.

Boy howdy is that ever the truth...last time I looked at houses half the really nice ones we saw in the ads I didn't even slow down as we drove past

I thought the burger places had the corner on the market as far as phony photos until I went house hunting

Hang in there and don't jump unless it REALLY feels perfect, hold out for the one that works the best...it will be worth the extra effort and time looking for it.

Best of Luck!

The last place we drove by as we approached I think we both had that sinking feeling. We pulled into the driveway in our rental car, a '14 Chevy Impala. I looked at DH, "There is no way my truck will fit here". DH says "This car barely fits here".

So, no. lol We drove off with the wind knocked out of our sails. "Let's go to the hotel bar and get some beers, and dinner too I guess".
