Honda small engine parts
Honda small engine parts
I have a Honda GX160Hx. It is a 5.5hp with a 6:1 gear reduction built right on the engine.
I have sheared the output shaft off right at the output seal. A dealer wants $245 for the shaft alone. A small engine wholesaler wants $445 for a whole new engine.
I am thinking that this engine has worked nearly flawlessly for about 10 years and owes me nothing. I think a new engine would be a good investment.
I also think that the used one is in way too good of shape to just throw out. The crankshaft is geared on the output side making it hard to use for another higher speed purpose.
I had found a website with a parts breakdown, and thought I had added it to my favorites, but it is not there. When I had the diagram, I had the part number. I had quickly Googled it and found the part for about $150 plus shipping (a lot).
I was wondering IF there was a "small engine junkyard" anywhere around?
This engine is real popular on cement mixers. Anyone know of a mason that forgets to add oil to their Hondas and have a dead one (with a good shaft) lying around?
Just looking for options to have a spare engine.....
Thanks in advance

I finally found the parts breakdown. The part # is 23710 883 740.
It appears as though Honda used the same gearbox on the GX100 (4hp), the GX160 (5.5hp) and the GX200 (6.5hp).
It looks as though I will set my sights on a new 6.5hp as it is only $40 more.
I still would like to find a reasonably priced replacement part to have a spare
Thanks
