"holidays"

I may be kicking up an antpile here, and it is a couple days late, but this makes me mad.

we as americans shut schools down for Columbus day, MLK day, Thanksgiving and numerous other holidays. BUT, (and I realize some organizations do) too many schools, and business stay open for veterans day! If ther is any day we should stand back and reflect on history (besides christmas and easter for my savior) it is VETERANS day.

i am not a veteran, but i have family that are. And I for one realize the sacrifices our veterans have laid down for us. We dont do enough for these guys and gals. we should have 10 veterans day a year.

thank you for keeping the ground i walk on free. If there is anyone living in America that doesnt take time to appreciate our veterans, they should get out.

ill step off my soapbox now.

Re:"holidays"

yeah, after I hit post, I forgot to mention I live around Houston, Tx. Some schools were closed, but my wife goes to the local community college. They were open, as was HISD, and many other school districts. I will give credit to the county I live in though, they did close all schools. But it is a small district. Houston Independent School District is huge, and from what I heard on the radio, they were open.

I work for a large engineering firm, and there is no way they are shutting down. they only shut down on thankgiving, christmas, memorial day, and easter.

oh well. maybe i should just keep to myself.

Palmetto, this old crusty vet thanks you for the thought, but don't lose any sleep over it. What's important is the acknowledgement of the people who have served and are currently serving, many in harm's way unfortunately. I'm glad to see that the pendulum has swung back to honor. There was a time when we were not. Personally, I'd rather the kids were in school, participating in assemblies with military members learning the truth of what it's like to be in the military. Once again, thanks for the thought.

Palmetto Kid,

What large engineering firm in the Houston area would that be? I work for a large engineering firm that has an office on Rogerdale Rd. Would that be the same large engineering firm?
