High Monthly Payment=No Truck for me :(

Well folks (figured Id vent here a bit here goes)....Ive wanted a Dodge Diesel for a LONG time infact, there isnt a day go by that I dont think about it or annoy my wife to no end ......I have a situation (bad credit) :'( which is making it impossible for me to buy a Truck, well at least with a reasonable payment...My interest rate would be 15% @40k with hardly any downpayment even for 72mths were talking about 700$/mth OUCH..wifes credit isnt any better and have no co-signer.....I would settle for a 99-02 no prob but in my area (longisland) there are basically NO dealers that carry them....and really didnt wanna buy something with close to 100K on the odometer and even then paying up to $500/mth I bet, ..so If anyone wins the lotto, Ill be sure to be your Best friend lol ;D

Re:High Monthly Payment=No Truck for me :(

dieselnut - I drove an '84 Celica from '87 to '99 (my dad gave it to me / free). In '96 I supplemented my fleet of 1 car to a 2 car fleet by buying a '88 3/4 ton Sub (great truck for $8,400). I loved both of those vehicles. I had them both until '99.

The point is, the reason I could buy a new 2000 Ram in 1999 is that I had spent jack-cr@p on vehicles as compared to EVERY dude I knew that was my age. The Celica got totalled (put me out about $50 .... just kidding), and I sold the Sub. Got a new Ram. Now my Ram is 4 years old, but seems to me like its still a new vehicle. I will be keeping it for a minimum of 10 years. Then I'll consider replacing it, but would prefer to go 15 years with it...we'll see.

My suggestion is: Find a '98 quad cab 12V. Not a 98.5 (that's when the 24V was implemented). You could get one probably for $10k ~ $18k. And take care of it. You will LOVE it. What will help you love it is that you'll spend a lot less money on it than someone like me, who paid $34k for a new one. IMHO, the 12V is a more effecitive powerplant (more reliable, more fuel efficient, cheaper to bomb if you can't resist). Keep that truck for as long as you can, or until you find yourself better off financially. I love my truck, but if I had it to do over again, I think I would buy used, and put a truck load of money in the bank. In my opinion, keeping a vehicle for a long time is the most cost effective way of owning a vehicle ... and vehicles are more expensive than most of us realize.

Don't make your situation worse by having to have a truck off the lot. Does anyone know how much power the 2015 CTD will offer? Hehehehe. But probably I'll wind up with a 2012 CTD (used) in 2015. Anybody want dibs on my Y2K that will be available in 2015?

Ha, College doesnt help. But i could swing a new ram. But heres the way im starting to look at it. I could go buy a 2000 or so for around 18-20k. I could go buy a new 03 for like 26 or so now after the incentives and what not. Now being 20 and in college. How new of a truck do i need? And that extra 8k plus whatever i save in intrest could go into some pretty nice Modifications. Or ya look at how powerfull the new ones are stock and i could just wait till the warrenties over and start the bombs for bette results ( from what i read) All personal preferace. Be nice to find a program that helps College students buy new cars! there we go thats the key!
