hey! dodgeram

What is the country like around Gillam? Anything similar to The Pas or Flin Flon? Are they working on a highway to Chirchill yet? (that would be one drive I would be interested in...)
My Grandmother used to live in Swan River, once or twice when I would come out for a visit I would head back to B.C. through Flin Flon and down the Hanson lake road.

Re:hey! dodgeram

hey, I was born and raised in flin flon .........that's sheild country lots of rocks .........once you get up to gillam it's all short trees , swamp & big sand piles (the eskers left from glaciers)

lot's of small game & caribou for hunting & there's great fishing too

no highway to churchill ..........road stops here...........you still need the train to get up there, I kinda doubt they'll ever build one.....not enough votes up there to pay for a road

the drive up here's not too bad bad but it's 300km of poorly maintianed narrow gravel road from thompson up, kinda hard on the ol truck..........guess I should be happy, they didn't even put that road in till 89, you used to have to send your truck up by train if you wanted one up here

Re:hey! dodgeram

hey sorry .forgot about this .....most of the trees are just short becuase it's all swamp around here ...........go about 20 miles north on the snomobile and it starts to look a lot like tundra (maybe cause it is)

we get all kinds of tourists up here as the train stops here on the way to churchill

we just had a bunch of german students come through on a tour (about 40 of em) .........they're doing a 2 month tour of northern canada...........for some reason widerness seems to apeal to them :

I got to say them germans grow some good looking blondes

Dodgeram, wondering what you do in Gillam. I flew in there from Winnipeg, we toured several of the MHEB hydro units and the DC converter stations. I work for a electric utility here in the states. Use to work in Minnesota and buy good, inexpensive power from those hydro units. Later.
