This said it all for me...

http://library.law.smu.edu/miers/index.htm

Please Bush, pull the nomination, or let her back out gracefully. She would get to look like a hero for doing so, and Bush might save some face and get a real nominee in there. The Republicans have been working for 30 years for the right people to get appointed to the Supreme Court. For Bush to ignore that work and nominate this Miers, well, it's a slap in the face to the establishment who's been working so hard for this opportunity.

This is interesting, mainly because most of America's moderate and left have been accustomed to 95% of Republicans agreeing with Bush's views, decisions, actions and inactions since the start of his administration. The constitution should stand the test of time unfortunately lately that seems less and less important to the Fed's.

Why can't the judicial branch just stick to what it is supposed to do anyway? Has this always been such and issue (Presidents appointments), or do we just pick apart EVERY single thing that Bush does? I for one can't wait to see the next (democratic of course) President try to get anything done with all the opposition he will face on EVERY subject form the right, as has been the case with the Dems torwards Bush.

Wow! I can't believe it!

This is a very interesting thread with some good points and NO flames. I knew it could be done.

Now if we can just figure out a way to keep Herb calm.........

I'm glad he picked someone with basic religious values than someone with no values at all.

I didn't know that there was someone with no values at all up for consideration. Who was that exactly?

After waiting 25 years to take back both houses of congress, the white house, and the supreme court, the opportunity of all these things coming togeather, culminating in the chance to appoint TWO justices to the highest court of the land...... to have it slip away with such a "milk toast" nominations has really sickened and soured me on Republicans for good.

The only flaming concerning this thread is me flaming myself for believeing I belonged to a party really wanting to change this country only to find out they sold out the rank and file guys like me.....again.

I went down the voter registration and registered independent.

GB you lost me, I give up. You're on your own.

I hope you mean "unenrolled" as there is an Independent Party. I don't know if they're left, right or center, but my guess is you won't be happy if their views are to the left of yours.

I don't know that 95% reps argee with him on everything, if you listen to the conservative talk shows most of the callers are quite dismayed at the fact Bush has not vetoed a single spending bill and that he has not done much about the southern border problem. Same thing with the Roberts nomination, there was and still is dissention among the ranks about that. They are unhappy that he gets too cozy with the Clintons.
I am a Bush supporter generally but have some big problems with things he has done and not done. For me he's not conservative enough, but I knew that when I voted for him.

As for any administration trying to get anything done, I think its gotten progressivly worse over the years and I fear your right the next time a dem is in office everything will be a fight. Its come down to one side will oppose the other just because, regardless of who is in office.

It seems every thing is political these days, hmmm, I wonder which DTR members have better mods on their trucks, righties or lefties?
There has got to be a political angle in there somewhere.

Hmm, it seems as if we almost, kind of agreed on something here?? Scary!

I know I'm NOT a republican and my mods list is laughable, not sure what this means. I have some equipment I am selling this winter that ought to free up some loot for additional HP.
