Harley Davidson Question.
I've had a Buell, and currently have a RoadKing.
I don't consider the sportster a woman's bike at all. You do see women riding sportsters, but you see them riding electraglides, too.
Anyway, go buy the bike that you want, not the bike that you think will give other people a certain impression...

I think I am sold on the Nightster now guys! Now, my final question, how much should I pay? He told me what MSRP was but do I pay that or can they be talked down a little? Thanks guys.
There was a time when if you wanted a big twin you either got on a year + waiting list at a place that sells at MSRP, or you paid way over MSRP...
I think those days are over. I'd tell them you are going to price shop a bit, and ask them what their bottom dollar, out the door would be...

Alright, I went in and told them I would be paying cash for whatever I bought from wherever I bought it. They said that the MSRP was what they would sell for on the 09 models but they could come down a bit on an 08 if they had one but they dont. They did offer an in store credit that would cover my forward controls and some other stuff or about a thousand bucks if I paid cash. They show a lower MSRP than they only other harley dealer in my area right now so I dont know what I should do. I havent talked to the other dealer in person so I think I will swing by there and just see what they can offer. I left the dealer today and told them I would think about it and shop around a little bit. It seems the Harley dealers are a very captive type buisness? They are so few and far between I guess they really are?

Dmax,
Bikes are all about imagination and having fun. If you like it, get it!
Having said that let me politely make this comment; that bike looks like it's made for bar hopping. If you wanted a road burner or a bike to ride to work you'd probably want a better seat, twin front disks and a bigger tank. And you are bargaining on forward controls with the dealer. I'm assuming not for highway use, but for image. Nothing wrong with that, but if it is all image, you might be better off with a Dyna or a Softail in some configuration.
Most important is that you get what YOU want.

Raspy, you are correct, it is all about image for me. I also will be using the bike to ride to and from work some but its only like 25 miles so no biggie for a young guy like me. I have looked at some other models but none have the look like this one does. I know I can make any other model look like this but I cant help but think its the small sportster frame that sets this bike apart. It reminds me of the bike you always see the bad boy highschool guy riding in the movies that are set in the 50s. I want to be that guy!!!!
Back in 2004 when the first rubber mounted sportster came out I drove one and it was the closest thing to my old 92 FXRS low rider that I had ever felt. In fact it was faster than the 80 inch low rider and it weighed 28 pounds less. Any way I ordered one the next week and when it came in I sold my 2000 Road King Classic. and now Its the only bike I have. Some people call it a chick's bike, but pound for pound it's faster than the bigger bikes. It's fun to drive, and if you twist the right wrist, you better hang on tight.
I swung by the other dealer today and talked with them. He couldnt promise me anything but he took down my info and said he will have the sales manager call me. He said they usually dont vary too far off from MSRP but he would see what he could do. I dont mind driving to save a few bucks. I like road trips anyway. I will let ya know what they say.
I have looked at some used ones and I can see why the get retail for them. I hope people really dont pay more for a used bike than a new one would cost? I see plenty of used ones advertised well above retail! Thats just wrong. And these are stock bikes also, no extras!

With everyone out buying bikes nowadays to battle the gas issue .... you may be hard pressed to get a deal.
I've been getting the itch for a bike lately too ... luckily, my wallet is keeping me in check for the time being
.

I have a question... I've been shopping around too and I notice there are none on Ebay. Does harley not allow this or do dealers just choose not to ebay new ones.
Ebay is pretty much how I shopped for my truck. Love that place.
