Goodyear Workhorse Extra Grips vs. other mud tires

Ok, so I'm graduating and my car is almost dead. I don't have nearly enough money for a CTD yet, but my uncle is buying a new truck and is willing to give me (for free) his '91 Toyota 4x4 pickup. Say what you want, but I love those trucks-my first car was my Land Cruiser and they're tough little off-road machines as well as the only Japanese vehicle I'd ever buy. The truck is totally basic, power nothing, no a/c, 5 speed, etc... Anyway, the only thing it needs is tires so I've been doing some shopping. I was initially thinking along the lines of General Grabbers, BF Goodrich M/Ts, Wrangler M/Ts or something similar. Then the other day I saw a truck with Goodyear Workhorse Extra Grips. They're more of a worktruck/hybrid mud tire, but the tread is pretty chunky. The website says that the treadwear rating is better than the M/Ts and they're also quieter. As much as I'd like it to be the other way, I know that I'm going to be spending more time on the highway than on the dirt, so I'd like a long wearing tire. Anyone have these tires and care to comment? They're a little pricier than other mud tires, so I'm hesitant to just go with them. Anyone?

I haven't seen those. My draftsman had Wranger M/Ts on his jeep for about 30K miles. No tread life. They sound like they might be a good set of tires, alot of our field guys run Geolanders on their trucks

Personally, for the money, I would go nissan rather than Toy(ota). But I haven't found any major drawback to Toyota trucks.

I had a set of 10 ply workhorse extragrips I put on a 2500 chevy. I think they did good in the winter and on the jobsite...but they wore down really quick.

I had some on the back of a 2wd PSD... They wore ok, not to bad but certianly not great. Hooked up pretty well in most stuff too. The best Badyears I ever owned, by a long shot.
