Fun at the Rodeo

Here's a picture from the PRCA Rodeo in Perry, GA last night. It was the first bull ride and after the rider got off, the bull jumped into the box seats where my wife, daughter and I were sitting.

10 people were injured with two requiring hospitalization.

Alan, you need to stop making those funny faces at the Bulls!

I hope everybody is OK and recovers quickly, Bulls sure do have a way of letting everybody know who is REALLY in charge every now and then.

I hear you. He had faked a jump the first time around the arena. Everyone thought it was funny. Except me. He had charged the rail, stopped, pawed the ground then came down to where we were sitting. In this photo, he has just jumped into our box seats. People are down against the arena rail. My wife is in the gold sweater and black vest in the upper right of the picture. I had already cleared the four foot guard rail while carrying my nine year old daughter. My daughter had opened her eyes to see the bull charging us. My wife went over the rail right after this picture was taken. The bull is obscured by the wrangler in the white shirt but you can see he is headed up the box seats. He completely destroyed that section (section 10) before running and being roped at section 7.

Oh, yeah, he jumped the rail at the Dodge sign. Notice, it is horse head high. I was on the third row. He landed on the second row, never touching the rail and then bounced into the third row where we were sitting.

One more. Notice how everyone is clearing out of Section 9. He had left section 10 at this point and was headed down the arena through the box seats at a high rate of hay consumption.

WOW! Glad you guys are OK. Things like this are why I don't want front-row seats at ANY sporting event. The nose-bleed seats are safer in these situations.

This mornings paper said the bull will be put down. That's too bad. He was confused and couldn't find the gate out.

That is too bad he had to be put down. I've seen new bulls have a hard time finding the outgate and it takes them a while to get out of the arena. They just have to learn where it is.

I've also seen bulls jump the backpens to see what is going on in the parking lot guess they wanted to tailgate too.

How'd he buck by the way? That would be a shame if he was a good bucker.

He was an excellent bucker. At only 1500 pounds he was strong with good twisting action. And as you can tell, he easily can jump 7 feet and stay on his feet. I hate he is being put down, too. I think it is to appease the spectators. He wasn't that violent once in the seats. He was just trying to find a way out of the arena. Once in the middle of the seats, he wasn't kicking or butting. He got turned in the direction of the gates and started heading that way.

LOL, yeah you see that happen alot. One year (late 80's) at Cheyenne, Doug Vold was making a nice bronc ride when his bronc jumped the little fence. (If youve been to Cheyenne you know what im talkin about) and somehow got over to the track that sets right by the arena. Here Doug was, on his bronc circling the race track with the other jockeys on there horses. LOL

About 2 years ago at Chickasha's IPRA rodeo, I had made my bronc ride, but after the whistle the horse was crowding the fence pretty good as he bucked down the length of the arena. I was paying more attention to the pickup-man on the other side and the horse pitched I lost my swells and he sent me right over the fence. Landed right in front of a pretty big gal sitting in a lawn chair LOL Scared her pretty good.

Good news. The bull is not being put down. The Rodeo Company said they are sending him to "rodeo school" for a refresher course. Never heard of it but stranger things could happen.

Who's bull was it?

Buddy of mine did a bull ridin' show a few years back. Growney Bros put the stock up. We did it a a dirt track here in CA, chutes across from the stands and panels run around up to the k-rail.

Ol boy turned out on a RANK Brahma cross, had to be #1900 or better with about a 4 foot rack. Cowboy made about two jumps before he come off, and the bull ran down to the other end of the arena before he turned around and come runnin' along in front of the chutes. Well, I was workin out gate that night, and here come this bull. I went to jump up on the gate to get out of his way, but there was a banner strung up on the gate and the chute boss (my roomate) jumped up in the only hole and left me in the trick bag. I'm tryin like you know what to get up on top of that gate cuz here comes that big SOB just a kickin and tossin them horns around. He come by and as I looked over my right should I saw them hind feet come by about a foot from my head and them horns not much further on my left. My buddy workin strip chute said he was lookin up to see me come fallin out of the sky.

Anyhow, the bull cirlced around and went back down to the other end. Couple of stupid buckle bunnies were standing on the other side of the end panel (where it butted up against the K-rail) watchin this bull as it went on the prod. Bull backed up about 5 feet and charged the panel. Panel come loose and hit one of the girls, knocked her about 10 feet and out. Her friend runs up to help, the bull backs up and hits the panel again, taking it clean off, and runs over both of them. First girl takes a helicopter ride, she was in a coma for quite while. Second girl went out in an ambulance. Never heard what happened to the bull.

Ugly........

Glad to hear your wife and youngin are fine.......
