Frozen land breakroom 1/8 - 14

Yeh, I know - - it's a bit chilly out there and some are snowed in - - - BUT, time goes on and all will change..........sometime............somewhere..... ........
for whom??????? Suck it up and come get some fresh hot Ph00, or Dunkin Donuts coffee, or hot chocolate. Hot cross buns fresh out of the oven.

Gotta run, be good, go to church.

Bob

Shovelhead 01-08-2017 08:51 AM

Thanks Bob.
Mornin' folks.
Chilly on the Mid-Atlantic right coast.
White stuff everywhere.
Is it Spring yet?

Mexstan 01-08-2017 09:18 AM

Hey, who sent the cold stuff my way? Not fair. It's freezing here today and definitely not Paradise. A bit cloudy and only 48f so far. Brrrrrrrrrrrr. If this keeps up, may need to turn the A/C off in my truck for a few hours until it warms up a bit. A lot!
Love the smell of fresh hot cross buns, so will help myself to a couple Goes well with hot chocolate and a horrible day like today. Thanks Bob.

Bob, last week you said: Yep - - yep - - with ya now. We did this in Guatemala on an outbuilding while building a one story block church. Sure would not use it in Florida. Sand does not make a good ramming material, only good cement. LOL And, it is not impervious to moisture penetration, in fact must have some to preserve itself. It would get a lot of that down here and probably destroy it. Scary. By the time you build the wood forms, do the work and have to put up with the lack of versatility, probably better with adobe or concrete blocks. Mixture reminds me a bit of adobe.

Today it is easier to build due to a much modified version of reusable and sliding forms. New methods of sealing also make this a good choice for many places. The mixture is very much like adobe. It's still labor intensive, but the finished product is fantastic. Did you know that 20% of new houses in Australia are now built using rammed earth. In many parts of the US this method is now becoming quite popular.

NO!

Anyone have AlGores phone number?

I want to give him an ear full............

Supposed to warm up today though, should finally see some double digit temperatures...........

Mexstan 01-08-2017 03:45 PM

I was complaining about the unusually low temps for this part of the world, but after reading the horrible low temps that some of you are experiencing, will shut up. By the sounds of things, even with my "low" temps, I am in Paradise. This afternoon the clouds rolled away, the wind died down, all blue sky and a "low" temperature presently of 68f. Still cool, but will take it.[coffee]

Pat, if you get thru to Al Gore, give him a double earful from all of us.

Fronty Owner 01-08-2017 04:06 PM

Yall know al changed to to global climate change to cover the ups and downs and still be right. It doesnt matter if its up or down or within standard deviation, its change.

i dont mind the hot or the cold, but i hate going from 70 to 30 back to 60 in a week.

Scotty 01-08-2017 06:33 PM

The thing I've noticed is the changes in weather are more extreme and much faster.
i encountered 70 mph plow winds this summer and rarely had encountered that before. Also more temperature swings, higher rainfall amounts.

It's All Gore's fault.

deere country 01-08-2017 07:08 PM

I can't figure out how the glaciers melted to form the Great Lakes that people today use to swim in during the summer months. It at one time held a glacier and now it's a summer hang out for people and doesn't freeze over in the winter, but yet we are surprised that the climate is changing.

Wake up people, the climate has been changing since the beginning of time. Al Gore should be in prison for all the BS he and his cronies started. They know so much about mother nature and all that happens with the weather but yet they just learned less than 3 years ago about the volcano below Antarctica. Really some experts their!!

FiverBob 01-08-2017 07:11 PM

Poor Al - - you guys are picking on him. Here is all bundled up in his mansion purchased from the proceeds of making people believe in climate change, and you guys don't believe him. Shame on you. .............[nonono].................[dummy]....................Oh, the head beating is on Gore beano. DUH

Down to 39 last night, potted plants from lanai came inside last night. Those orchids do not like the cold weather. Just learned it will be 40 tonight - - wow, heat spell. Soooooo, plants get another night inside. Soon they won't want to go back to their home and go hide in a closet or something.

Gotta go build me a rammed earth building out on the ranch. ............[coffee]

nighty nite,.

Mexstan 01-08-2017 08:13 PM

OK, radical change of subject. Just watched a video that I thought may inspire some of you. Watch;

FiverBob 01-09-2017 04:37 AM

Good clip, Stan. Amazing what he has done with such a handicap.

Time to rise and shine, gang. Fresh coffee and ph00 four y00 - - on the counter. Still dark out, so can go get some work done before breakfast. Yeh.

Have a great one.........................[coffee]

Mexstan 01-09-2017 04:59 AM

Good morning from a cool Paradise. Supposed to be warmer today than yesterday, but before the sun comes up it is quite cool. As I will be working outside first thing this morning, probably in a breeze, will wear long pants for a change, instead of my usual shorts. Almost never do that.

Thanks for the coffee. Heading out early this morning to the orphanage to modify an electric sliding gate from a gear and rack opening to a chain drive. Been forced to do this due the constant relative movement between the motor and the gate which always creates problems. The soil here is bad for this kind of thing unless quite deep piers are sunk into the ground. This was not done on the initial installation.

Ciao.

railroaderone 01-09-2017 02:19 PM

Heat wave it's above 20 down side going to have to work on my truck again at least it will be warmer.

What about that bunch a libs at the Golden Globes saying if we deported everyone all we would have Is the NFL and MMA for entertainment. I have a great idea put her in a cage with Ronda Rousey and that will be entertainment I would pay to see

Scotty 01-09-2017 03:07 PM

Rhonda needs to up her game. She's slacked off after making it to the top.

FiverBob 01-09-2017 07:08 PM

I slacked off too. Trouble is I am on the bottom of the heap ..............:o.............[verymad]

Nuther morn - - coffee and ph00 are on. Busy, so nuttin else with it, but enjoy the coffee.

CYA.......................[coffee]

Mexstan 01-10-2017 06:28 AM

Morning. Sounds like some of you are sort of messed up but will not go there. [laugh]

My day started quite a while ago, but now slowing down a bit and enjoying a coffee. Got to head out in a couple of hours as I am dog sitting a lab and a boxer for a couple of friends while they are away at the beach for 8 days. Need to go to their house twice a day and water and feed the mutts.

Glad that I dressed warm yesterday morning as I started my day working outside on the top of a hill next to a wall. There was quite a breeze blowing and the wall funneled the wind directly to where I was working. It was cool! By 10 a.m. the sun had warmed everything up nicely and the wind no longer bothered us and the sweater came off. Back to a shorts day.

Got to talk to Top yesterday in person, watch that jab it's mean, thanks for the help Top, it's made life easier.

Weather has warmed up to unseasonably warm here if the truck was up I be out riding my sxs today.
Yall have a good one

Lary Ellis (Top) 01-11-2017 11:22 AM

Hey Clint always a pleasure to see you :)

Let me know when you head out on the trails again I need to get my ATV muddy ;)

Mexstan 01-11-2017 01:41 PM

Morning, afternoon or whatever, wherever you are.

Not much to report from Paradise. Still cool early in the morning, but it does warm up nicely later. Beautiful sunrise this morning. There were a few clouds around and the rising sun painted them various shades of pink and orange. Too bad the colors do not last for very long.

Got a strange whine starting from the engine of my truck. Can hear it from about 1,400 - 2,000 rpm. Thought that it may be an alternator bearing starting to die, but when I removed the belt, the alternator spun freely with no crunching. However, the new water pump that I recently installed makes a slight squeak when turned by hand. Sounds like a rubber squeak.

Anybody have any suggestions for a good anti-virus? Mine has just expired so am looking around to see what is best. The reviews for the usual top companies all show that that all of them work well, but most come with lots of garbage attached, The internet reviews for the top companies are all mixed, so am now confused. Yeah, yeah, I know, it does not take much!

Almost lunch time and already looking forward to eating.

Adios.

sherod 01-11-2017 01:56 PM

Quick stop and go today. Got some good news from the Skin Doc. Nothing to worry about found today during my tune-up. No indications of the melanoma cropping up so next visit in 6 months.

FiverBob 01-11-2017 04:37 PM

Finally slowed down enough to pull the trigger on the peuter. Nobody made coffee or ph00 - - - so ph00eeee on it. Go without.

Just had to let you know I am still alive and pushing too hard.

Be good.

Bob

Lary Ellis (Top) 01-11-2017 05:31 PM

Stan PCMatic runs on a "Whitelist" allowing only programs to run that have proven to be OK rather than a "Blacklist" where someone has to report it and then it will stop it if it is on the list. That makes a lot more sense to me and should allow nothing through.

Mexstan 01-11-2017 07:58 PM

Lary, thanks for the suggestion. Never tried that route, but will certainly take a look at it.

There is a lovely full moon out tonight and the sky is perfectly clear too. When I lived in China, I never ever saw a full moon due to the air pollution. Only caught glimpses of the moon once in a blue moon.

Mexstan 01-12-2017 06:43 AM

Good morning. Coffee and ph00 are fresh, hot and awaiting your drinking pleasure. For those of you that add poisons to your hot drinks , ie sugar and artificial sweeteners, have done you a favour and dumped all of them and left some healthy honey instead. Enjoy! The late comers can bring some munchies or breakfast.

Looks like another fantastic day dawning down here. When I got up could still see the full moon, but now on the other side of my house.

Off and running. Have a LOT to accomplish today, starting by driving to a friends house and feeding and watering their lab and boxer while they are away. It's quite a circus when I show up there! They know the sound of my truck and head down to the gate as soon they hear it. It's sort of dangerous walking up the driveway as the two dogs are dancing around my feet and trying to trip me. Dogs sure make a person feel welcome!

L8tr, when I can come up for air - or a coffee.

Scotty 01-12-2017 06:59 AM

Scotty, try not to hate me too much, but was just out driving. The truck had been parked for a while in the sun and the overhead showed 30 degrees when I got in, but dropped down to 27 while driving. Had the A/C on the entire time. The thermometer outside my office indicates 24C.

richard 01-12-2017 07:39 PM

Evenin folks! Been a busy week in the shop, still here at 20:30hrs. Supposed to have a new employee starting Monday. Will be nice to have more help around here... Today was a rear spring on a Peterbilt, Ball joints and brakes on an F550, a service on an 06 Mega Cab 5.9. An F800 with no power, and now i'm working on a CAT skidsteer with no heat and a cold start problem. At least it was almost 60* here today so I opened the big door for some fresh air. But don't worry, it'll be 18* degrees overnight tomorrow. Welcome to New England.

Good thing I have an understanding wife at home, the last one didn't like me working so much. This one gets it!:):)

Fresh coffee from the keurig and back to work. Have a great evenin y'all

Mexstan 01-13-2017 09:25 AM

Good morning from Paradise where another wonderful day is starting. Sun is shining brightly and things are warming up nicely.

Coffee and ph00 is ready. I am munching on some fresh cut coconut, so have set out a plate for your enjoyment. There is also a jug of fresh coconut water. This is extremely healthy. Don't drink the whole jug. Hurry - before Scotty gets here!

Lary Ellis (Top) 01-13-2017 09:53 AM

Good Morning Boys and Girls...thanks for the coffee and coconut :) I wanted to get mine before Scotty comes in here wearing a hula skirt, showing off his LEGGS

That sight is hard to take but I will admit he is a fine dancer [coffee]

Mexstan 01-13-2017 11:10 AM

Scotty - hula skirt - LEGGS - what a nightmare. Or is that a daymare? :o Whatever, it spoiled my day! Thanks Lary! :(

cougar 01-13-2017 12:05 PM

Basking in the heat wave. Warmed up from -17° to -4° as storms move in. Snow is expected, but how much is the guess. Might be an inch, might be a foot by the time the last one passes through. Freezing fog through the past week made roads slick. Got to practice my drifting. Was talking to a guy in Louisiana, always fun to hear them cringe when talking about today's high being below zero.

Scotty 01-13-2017 09:34 PM

Hulala Look at my coconut oil slathered LEGGS

OH NO, THERE IT IS AGAIN. ..........[dummy].................[yuk]

ok bob, it will be ok - - just go along and do your thing.

Let's try this again. Nice fresh hot coffee and ph00 for you freezing up there. (hate to say this, but it was 81 here yesterday) Fresh pot of oatmeal on the stove with raisins, craisins, bananas, brown sugar on the counter. Enjoy.

Now, go do something productive beside rubbing grease on your ugly LEGGS and making everyone throw up. .................[yuk]......................[laugh]

Have a great one.
