Is there anyway to find out who a prior owner was? I just picked up my 04 3500 with 4000 miles and I had some questions about some things on the truck but for some reason the dealer isn't being real helpful with that info.

 

www.carfax.com should have the info you're looking for.
It's not free, but It's a way to get it.

I car faxed every truck i was even thinking seriously about (about 25 over a one month period 2 months ago), they will tell you how many owners and when and where registration took place but no names or address's, if you knew what the plate # was you could get it from DMV, not sure if they will give you any info with the vin # or not, be worth a call

I think DMV will notify them you are trying to contact them, however they will not give out confidential info such as that. you might be a physcopath or ?????????? a stalker.

 

another option is to goto www.publicdata.com there you can put in a plate number nad for most states you can get the address and information, I can't remember if you can use the VIN or not. Lots of cool stuff there though. If you know one persons DL # then you can get the information for everyone registered at that address.

 

soon after i bought mine, i went to a dodge dealership and asked them to print the entire option sheet and warranty service and recall records and they did. the original owners name and address was on there. i called him and explained who i was and asked if he minded talking about the truck. he was fine with it and ended up having some things still from it that i bought from him (cap, extra rims). i was glad that i did call him and got a little piece of mind about the trucks history.
