Was part of Unforgiven filmed there? I know of some riders from Calgary and extras that were in that and they filmed just outside of Calgary Alberta. One of my buddies was an extra/rider in that movie.

Yes, it was in Canada. If you can get your hands on the two disk set, Costner tells why he filmed it Canada. Bottom line=money, but he gives a good explaination.
