E-bay "hidden" fees - Final Value Fee -5.25% plus 3%

been wondering why my E-bay invoice has been $50 to $80 bucks a month,
finally dug into my invoices, and it looks like E-bay is charging a significant percentage or so for the Final Value Fee

here's my Final Value Fee for the last few months:
Subtotal for fee Final Value Fee $66.34

now, this is on top of the listing fees,
so you pay ~$2.50 to list something, and you list ~10 things,
and then you expect the invoice to be ~$25.00, and it comes thru your bank account as $50....now you know why!

between the listing fee, the final fee, the 3% plus .30 PayPal fees, it's hard to break even on there sometimes. i really like cleaning out the garage & making folks a good deal on stuff, but it is almost like i have to pay to get rid of some stuff, by time you pack/wrap/fees/drive to post office.

Example: You sold a single item for $153.00. Using the Final Value Fee table, your Final Value Fee is $5.15. This is calculated as follows: $1.31 (.0525 times $25.00) plus $3.84 (.0300 times $128.00) for a total of $5.15.

Final Value Fees
Closing Price Final Value Fee
Item not sold No Fee
$0.01 – $25.00 5.25% of the closing value
$25.01 – $1,000.00 5.25% of the initial $25.00 ($1.31), plus 3.00% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000.00)
Equal to or Over $1,000.01 5.25% of the initial $25.00 ($1.31), plus 3.00% of the initial $25.00 - $1,000.00 ($29.25), plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value)

Not trying to disagree with you but eBay's fees are not really "hidden". I sold lots of stuff on eBay and was aware of all the fees because I read everything first. Paypal, on the other hand, can really suck. You just have to decide if you want to pay what eBay charges - which is pretty fair.

you're right...here's what i am saying

you pay $250 for a set of pipes for your bike.

they sell on e-bay for ~$200,
in reality,
you lose 5% final, 3% paypal, listing fee,
use $5 worth of bubble wrap,
use $5 worth of diesel to go to post office,
and if you figure shipping/weight wrong ..Oh goodness..

i'm just saying you can think you are doing well, but a week or so later,
when you do the math...you really don't do as well as you hoped.

it's kind of a "necessary evil" to get rid of stuff.
the 7 days is what is nice, in 7 days, it will be out of your way.

stuff on the forums will just sit & never sell.

I do pretty well on ebay.
Somethings sell well some dont.

If you feel like you need 5 bucks for the bubble wrap and 5 for the gas to p.o. then add that to your shipping fee.

FWIW, here's a sample of my recent fees...

Subtotal for fee Final Value Fee $69.89
Subtotal for fee Gallery Fee $21.35
Subtotal for fee Insertion Fee $27.20
Subtotal for fee Picture Fee $27.90

and then, i clicked the wrong button creating an overseas label...YIKES!
take forever to get that postage back!

This email confirms that you have successfully requested a U.S. Postal Service(R) postage refund for the shipping label shown below. The U.S. Postal Service Refund Request process[B] will take approximately 15 days, except for Media Mail(R) and Parcel Post(R) which can take up to 21 days for a refund to be processed. If the U.S. Postal Service grants the refund, the postage value including the cost of insurance, if purchased with the label, will be credited to your PayPal account

I sell occassionaly on ebay, and i just figure whatever the final value is i take 10-15% off and thats what i make.

I bought a postage scale and ship and print all my labels through paypal/ups. That alone saves A TON.. the same package that costs $46 at the retail UPS store now costs $24.

I just figure 3% for paypal and ebay 7% for listing and final value fees.

Every $100 sale you make 90$, not too shabby.
