Hey Scott, when are you going to put in one of those remote wood burners? You've got the wood source nailed down and you could probably build one.

Thought of it many times, but those things burn vast quantities of wood. To heat the house, training facility and shop, I'd have to spend my life in the woods!

I don't think so. My buddy in Ohio only fired his twice a day, used big chunks of wood, nothing under 10" diameter. With the JCB and rear grapple you could process allot of wood fairly easy. You'd need a self contained cut off saw. I also have wondered why someone has not taken the old German technology of running an internal combustion engine off the wood smoke and added a generator to the mix.

Maybe he has a newer one. I have a couple of friends that come over here to get their wood and they spend almost as much time here as I do! And they're only heating one house each!

From what I understand there can be major differences in brands. My Ohio buddy moved to Kansas a few years ago and installed a wood burner there. It got totaled last winter by a sheet of ice sliding off the garage it was next to. The same company installed both units and they claimed the new one would use less wood than the old one, they were right. The old unit burned more than the one he had in Ohio. The new one used about 30-40% less wood. The only difference was the setting on the thermostat that controlled the water temperature in the heating unit. It was about 10 degrees cooler so the draft wasn't open as much, so the wood lasted longer. There was no difference in the heat produced in the house.
