Dog w/ Parvo
Dog w/ Parvo
Friend had his dog at house this weekend and found out later that evening after trip to vet E.R. that his dog has parvo. He called as soon as he found out to let her know. I was gone on pack trip but came home to smell of bleach everywhere, wife did not have any fun while I was out ridin. My dog was w/ me and is about 6 years old. Her shots are current as of March, any concerns I should have? Or will bleach get the job done?

ive run into that situation before also. i have a three year old husky and my wife and i wanted a new pup well 4 days after getting the new pup we were at the vet with him just to find out that he had parvo. i suggest going to the vet just for a booster. just incase the bleach didnt get it all. make sure you clean up all of the back yard also. because parvo can last for up to six months. in stool. and on some surfaces. hope every thing turns out for the best for you and your pups.
So did he/she bleach thier entire property, grass and all? I doubt they did any good. They probably bleached what was convient to them, but the dogs do thier thing all over the place, including outside, so unless ever sqaure inch was covered, the disinfecting was done in vain.
Parvo is just a thing that you cannot control because others don't controll it. The best thing is to keep your puppies away from all other dogs and where other dogs have been untill they have had all thier shots and are a bit older.

you probaly have nothing to worry about if you dont plan on having puppies, if it freezes over this winter that should take care of the outside, there is also a chemical you can spray outside that is sold online but i do not remember the name. you can get on any popular dog message board and ask around, they should be able to give you more accurate info.
also like RoberP suggested, a booster shot should take care of your older dog, unless your dog has an a low immune system it should be enough.

Thanks for all of replies, my mutt dog is probably not going to be a problem but just wanted to make sure. Her immune system should be pretty good cuz I do not give her any hand out table scraps and I dont give her any more attention than I have to.
