Does anyone remember?

Does anyone remember that you could get a diesel engine in a Dodge truck in 1978? I had a brochure on them and I wished I would have kept it. If you look here

Cilck

and scroll down a bit you can see that it was an option that year.

Also if you go
Here

and scroll down to to the "tough years section" there is also a mention of it. I can't seem to find out anything else. The trucks had an "H" in the vin# and it was an inline six 4.0 liter Mitsubishi engine. You could get it in a 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton or 1 ton, 2 or 4wd.

I guess I'll keep looking for more info.

Yes, I remember the D50's. I think I saw one around town some time ago, haven't seen it since. I also found a reference to the diesel engine in a 1977 brochure written in German of all things.

These guy's are into the older dodge trucks, some of your questions may be better answered over there. From what I understand, those engines were slow......

Yes, I remembered them. My Dad and I went and actually looked at a Dodge Power wagon with the I6 diesel for my first truck. Ended up getting a Datsun kingcab.

There was one on ebay last week or so. Wish I still had the link, let me have a look I and maybe I can find it.

FOUND IT! 1978 D150 diesel

I guess it wasn't a D50 but it was a D150 dosen't look like it sold.

The D50's were smaller with a smaller engine. What's kind of interesting about the truck on ebay is that it says it gets 22 mpg. (that's what I get in my 2000) and that it's in CA. They weren't avaliable in CA new.

Late 70's/early 80's there was a 6 banger offered in the 150/250 series. It was a Mitsubishi and, just guessing, around 4.5 -5.0 L displacement. No turbo. Saw a few around here. Also, in the mid 60's, there were some 354 ci. NA Perkins available in the D-250's. Most went to the Air Force. I had a '66 crew cab short bed with a granny four speed and 4.11 gears. 72 mph wide open, up hill/down hill. Tough old truck. Wish I hadn't got rid of it.
