Dodge Charger?

Anyone got one of the newer ones?
Is it a decent touring car?
Looking for something roomy, quiet with comfortable seats.
Hemi, unless someone talks me out of it.
Thanks

I'm about to get a 2011 for my patrol car. As soon as I get it, I'll let you know. I'm hearing that they are pretty nice and we did some driving with them around the test track and from what I hear, they rocked.

Thanks! Looking forward to it.
I don't want to go test drive one until I get
some real life reviews, opinions.

We have several as patrol cars now, and are getting an 11 soon. Ours are the V6's but they still have pretty good power.

Handling and braking are pretty decent, and I find them to be comfortable. Transmission is a little soft shifting for my personal preference, but with the stability control they do surprisingly well in the winter.

We have only had one that had a problem. The driver said it made a strange scraping noise briefly that went away. He was heading back to the garage when it quit and wouldn't restart. Key giggle code read showed something about cam position sensor rationality on one bank (vs the other cam/crank).

Anyway, it had a cam drive belt go, and damaged some valves.

The way we use them, with other brands we were changing transmissions under 40k, and brake rotors sometimes at 12k. These have been much better.

In short, if I were in the market for a sporty mid-size or larger car, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Brake rotors at 12k isn't bad but I'm taking it you work at a city pd? I'm usually replacing my rotors and pads every 6k on my crown vic, but most of my driving is high speed in a really busy county with people who like to run so it's gonna be a bit different I suppose. That and we have two long stretches of interstate running through.

DH has an '06 R/T. ...that a Hemi? Yup.

It's got some spunk. I enjoy taking it out for a spin when DH is out of town.

The back seat is roomy. Get your heads out of the gutter. It fits adult passengers fine. Personally the firm leather fancy sport seats are uncomfortable to me, but he loves them. Trunk space is good for traveling and carrying luggage. Dual climate control is nice. Sound system is decent with aftermarket head unit. Nav system is aftermarket and pretty good. Brake pads upgraded - though haven't really pushed them. Tranny is smooth, but I don't daily drive it so no clue if its got its quirks.

MPG is pretty good and comparable to other vehicles DH has driven. He likes sedans and big cars - weirdo! haha kidding, think he's practicing for when he's an old man with a giant Cadillac.

6k on rotors? That gets pricey.

Yeah, I work for a city. Speeds are low, but we are constantly on the brakes, lots of stop and go stuff, and the transmission is always shifting.

I don't have a horse in this race and have not driven a Charger; however, I have read a lot that they have a poor reliability record.

On the cop cars, my parents had an old Polara ex-CHP with a 440 in it... that thing moved!

Just bought a 2010 SXT for my wife. It's got the 3.5 V6, not the Hemi. I moved to it from an Expedition. I'm getting 22-23 mpg around town and 25+ on the highway. She gets better mileage than I do, but that's driving style. I'm 6'1" and so is my son. I can drive with him behind me in the back seat and we both have plenty of room. Comfortable, quiet, good car so far. The only downside I can see to the Hemi is fuel mileage. Our local county sheriffs drive them with the V6, except for interdiction cars that run the Hemi, and they all seem to love them so far. Hope this helps.

In my district 24 troopers have been running a charger that has anywhere from 8500 to 108,000 miles on them. None of them have seen any major issues. The only thing I saw is a radiator hose come off of one the other day and they had that fixed before the end of his shift. That's it. That and the fact that they don't stand up nearly as well in a wreck as the crown vic would. ..and if you pit with one, you're guaranteed to cause at least 500 dollars or more damage to your patrol car no matter what. With the crown vic, you could drive away from a good pit without a scratch.

Install a good belt fed Automatic weapon in the fender and you won't need to get close enough to scratch up your Charger

Bought an 07 RT with the optional Road and Track package 3 years ago for my wife. We both love the car. There are a few quirks like the bad blindspot that the C-Pillars create, the rear windsheild has a steep rake, with the optional spoiler it is hard to see out of and tires for the 20" wheels tend to be expensive when it comes time to purchase them. We drive it from NC to WV a couple of times a year and it is a great highway car but the best mileage we have gotten out of the hemi was 24 on the highway. It handles very well for being a large car and the hemi has plenty of power for getting on the highway. So far we have put 57,000 miles on the car and have had no issues. If for some reason she totaled it today I wouldn't think twice about replaciing it with one just like it.

That interesting you say that. One of the things we liked was there was no blind spot in that rear quarter. We think the view out that window doesn't feel closed off.

Interesting how different we can view the same thing.

I'm glad you mentioned road trip. We've only done one but we're thinking of doing the drive from TX to AZ for Thanksgiving this year. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of mpg we can squeeze out on the long hwy w/ a CAI and a Predator. DH regularly get 16-17mpg commuting, but he has a heavy foot, stop and go, accelerate uphills, that sorta thing We just did the spark plugs, all 16 of them, yesterday.
