Dodge Challenger Questions
Ok guys. I was at the PX today and they have one of the new 09 Challengers out front. that thing stole my heart today! I am normally a Mustang fan but I got swept off my feet by this beast!
Anyone read any reviews on it yet? Better yet anyone own one? I am trying to get some feedback on the good, the bad, and the ugly. I know they haven't been out long, and the first year of any car is a bad choice. But I want to see what those that have them or have been following them think so far. I figure with the trouble odge is in you can probly steal one from these guys right now.
I was thinking about just getting the 5.7 L Hemi, but then I started thinking, man that SRT-8 sure would be nice lol.

If you decide to buy, shop carefully. I saw one of the first in my area months ago roll off the truck. The sticker was mid forties with an "adjusted market value" of another forty. Total price was mid eighties but it sold for list plus $15k. The next two sold cheaper than the first, list plus $7k then list plus $2k. With the market like it is I'm sure you could buy below list if you have cash in hand.
I too had my eye on this auto. found out that the Mustang shelby Gt500 would blow its doors off. Challenger is nice but for performance mustang and dang if you dont see them all over the place now......
I read a good review a while back, I think it was Car and Driver? Well, they compared the Ford, Chevy and Dodge back to back. Overall, it really boiled down to what you want in a car. The Challenger was the overall most usable for everyday and had the more retro look. The Camaro is the price grabber with a 300hp v6 for $30k which really impressed the people reviewing it even being a v6. The Mustang and Camaro seemed more performance minded while the Challenger really was focused more on all around use. They claimed that you could actually sit in the back seat. And after seeing my 10 year old nephew in the back of my brother in-laws mustang, I knew what they meant. The Camaro and Mustang were more street huggers while the Challenger was kind of hefty in the turns and I believe it is the heaviest of the three.
I have a Jeep Commander in the garage with a Hemi and would be more than happy to own a Challenger. Although a new Camaro sitting next to my 69 Camaro would be kinda cool too. Ive driven a Challenger and really liked it and could see it being the more usable of all three. The Camaro looks like a great choice too for performance and price. Well, good luck. Id be happy to have any of them.
Have a good one.

Though the Challenger is a bigger, heavier car. I'm pretty sure I saw some videos of it out performing the new Mustang in corners, swerving around obstacles, braking and acceleration, etc. I think the only thing the mustang had over the Challenger was less weight.
There are a couple of them around my area and man they are slick looking cars! I was following an SRT-8 one day and that thing could haul. He pulled out to pass about 3 cars doing 80km/h and was by them in like 3 seconds, haha.

Yep I own an R/T Challenger.
I LOVE IT!!! It's very comfortable and fun to drive. Yes there are some faster cars but this thing is awesome. I bought mine in DEC. and had to pay MSRP. You should be able to get any R/T for sticker. The SRTs were 3K over sticker. That's why I got the R/T........I'm not paying over sticker. In fact this is the first time I ever payed sticker for any vehicle.
There have been a few issues with the car but nothing to cause buyer's remorse. There is a Key Fob issue that they are still hunting down. When the car sits in the sun I sometimes get (Key Fob Not Detected) When it does that the car won't start from the push button. When it does that I have to remove the button, stick the fob into the slot and turn to start just like any keyed ignition. Starts fine like that and once the car is cooled down all is good.
not sure what the 6.1 SRT does but mine will do 0-60 in 5-5.5 secs. could be better with a few mods.
Oh and yes there is quite a bit of room in the back seat considering that it's a 2 door performance car.

I ordered a 2009 as soon as I could. Its not the 6.1 but the 5.7 is a wild ride for a street car. I got Employee discount and AARP lol that was a $1000 off right there. I've got an '08 SRT8 Charger, and I love it. I tried to talk the wife into the SRT8 Challenger, but she refused. She insisted on a 4 door sedan. Kinda glad too, because when we bought our Charger, the SRT8 Challenger in the lot was about $10,000 more than our SRT8 Charger. I was looking around for a little while for a deal at some of the closing dealers for SRT8 Challengers, but my wife would kill me if I brought home another car. But I do love our Charger.
A lady at work bought one of the first Challengers in the area....5.7 hemi, orange with black accents.
Said she was going to trade it back to the dealer.
I asked on what.
She said an '09 Challenger in blue with the 6.1 and a 6 speed as soon as it hit the dealer..........
Her other cars...... a Durango SRT-8, and an SRT-10 Ram.

Nice. I was thinking about the 6.1 but couldn't justify the extra 10k for 50hp that I really don't need. I can make mods and get 50 hp for much less then
10k. I just want a nice looking fast car. I won't be tryng to set records so being the fastest isn't that big of a deal for me. Man I hope I can get one of these babies. It will be a shame if they stop selling them!

All they are is a Challenger body on the Charger chassis (way too much money for a body if you ask me). Take a look at the Camaro,at least you are getting your money's worth with a whole new design and this is coming from a Mopar guy!
1- It looks like a Challenger, not a Camaro. At least not to me.
I like the looks of the Camaro but if I want a car that looks like a Challenger..........I'll buy a Challenger. Oh that's right I did.
2- From what I'm told the feel when sitting in the driver and passenger seat is like sitting in a subcompact.
Also the back seat is completely useless in the Camaro. I put 5'11" adults in both back seats of my car and 2 adults in the front. Wasn't the most comfortable ride but an amazing amount of room considering what we were in.
