Dixie Chicks in Austin

I have to say I respect their First Amendment Rights as well.<br><br>But.<br><br>You have to consider the repercussions of voicing your opinion.<br><br>Particularly if you rely on fan support for your livelyhood.<br>Don't offend the bringers of your paycheck.<br><br>You don't visit downtown Watts (an example, period) and loudly voice your opinion of the majority of the local residents.<br><br>You don't tout your anti gun opinions at a Gun Show.<br><br>Yes, we all have the right to speak.<br>But, God blessed us all with the brainpower to think a little first.<br>(or we evolved the brainpower if that is your ideology)<br><br><br>phox
Re:Dixie Chicks in Austin
You guys have good points. I do feel that they have a right to express there opinions which holds no higher ground than mine or yours. HOWEVER, the way in which Natalie went about it was uncalled for, which is why they will NEVER see any of my money.
Re:Dixie Chicks in Austin
We do have the freedom of speech in this country. That right, along with our other rights, are afforded us by the sacrifices of millions of patriots over the years. However, when a celebrity uses their fame to obtain a platform to spout their own personal political views, I believe that is an abuse of privledge. Let them use their public platform to entertain, which is what earned them the platform in the first place. If they want to express their personal views, let them write a letter to the editor, like we normal people have to do. <br><br>DeWain

Toby could get a T shirt that says F.U.D.C. That has multiple meanings, all that I can agree with. I haven't listened to nor watched a video of the DCs since ole Chubs Maines kicked her brain out of gear and let her mouth run free. As a recalled Reservist who has been on active duty now for 20 months, I have no appreciation for them nor their talents any more. They have freedom of speech. I have freedom of choice. I willingly fight for both. And I exercise both......especially the choice when it comes to buying their music. That will never happen again. As much as I used to like them, I care nothing for anything they do now. Maines needs to have a great big cup of shut the heck up.
Re:Dixie Chicks in Austin
i gave up on hollywood and hollywood "type" singers long ago. the reason i like the toby/willie/travis types is because they remind me of the country music of the 60's. yea, there are lots of good country singers now but things have change since the 60's and 70's. the dixi bitc--- are right in there with hanoi jane and the likes in my humble opinion :-[<br><br>david h<br>RVN '68-'69
Re:Dixie Chicks in Austin
They do have a right to their opinion ( a lot of brave men and women gave their lives for us to have such rights) and I have the right to spend my $ however I want, and it will never again be on the chicks music. <br>I did use the cd's I had of them at the skeet shoot
Re:Dixie Chicks in Austin
I don't remember them saying anything disparaging about the troops. Statement had to do with the President and where they all hailed from. Read a quote from some Thomas Jefferson guy which stated (and I'm paraphrasing here) To blindly follow the President and never criticize him or his actions is to be a traitor to our country. Now, I'm not agreeing with their statements and don't have to change stations because I quit listening to country radio and went back to R&R about 10 years ago. ( I miss HW Jr) but no one should be singled out for expressing their opinion. You were all quite happy to hear us Canucks expressing our low opinions of our so-called leaders. Just something to think about. And I know I'm not an American so it's none of my business. Rick
Re:Dixie Chicks in Austin
our country was founded on the principles of speaking ones mind. but the forum they used was wrong. england was divided on our involvement in the war and i think the DC's would have been wise to not speak their minds on foreign soil.

I've noticed most people are all for free speach , unitll you say something they don't agree with , then they're for free speach but..................
<br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br>no offence meant to anybody......just something I've noticed, everybody does it<br><br>

Re:Dixie Chicks in Austin
I don't think there is anybody here that does not like freedom of speech. The Dixie Chunks can say whatever they want to. I will just choose not to listen to them. If I say something people don't agree with then they can kiss my big toe because they don't have to listen to me if they don't want to. I do agree that if they would have said it on American soil that I would of been less upset with them.<br>DM01

"I've noticed most people are all for free speach , unitll you say something they don't agree with , then they're for free speach but..."<br><br>I don't think it's the *free speech* portion of this issue we are commenting upon, but rather, the tendency of "personalities" to think or be treated by the media as tho THEIR "free speech" or opinion carried any more significance than yours or mine...<br><br>Does the fact that Rosie O or Danny G hate guns make THEIR opinion any more significant than mine? SO Alec Baldwin and Barbra Streisand hate GW - so WHAT?<br><br>All those may be viewed by some as great entertainers, but their entertaining is public - what they think on political issues is, to me, is PRIVATE and of little to no value to others - just like mine! Many, if not MOST "stars" and such have SERIOUSLY screwed up lifestyles that are GREATLY different than "ordinary" citizens - if they are so generally screwed up in their personal lives, WHY would us "lesser" folks care what they think on larger issues?<br><br>Big stars, and the media, hold a FAR higher view of their own importance and significance than *I* do!
