Spots, my man - - - you have me worried when you start looking at wedding dresses. They quit selling those licenses out in California.

Here is the latest news story re this article:

San Francisco - A man selling his former wife's wedding dress has broken the record number of auction views at online auction site eBay as over one million people logged on to see the chunky, tattooed guitar player model the ornate white garment.

Larry Star, from Seattle, didn't do badly on the sale, either. The dress, which according to Star cost $1 200 (about R7 200) new, fetched more than three times that much - $3 850 (about R21 000) - on the auction that ended on Wednesday night.

According to trade site AuctionBytes.com on Friday, no previous auction has ever come close to a million views.

The secret to the popularity of Star's offer appears to have been the amusing text along with the photos of him, tattooed arms and all, in the ornate dress.

'My drunken sot of an ex-father-in-law'
Star wrote that was selling the dress to buy beer and tickets for a baseball game, which apparently pumped male empathy for his plight.

He originally bought the dress "only because my drunken sot of an ex-father-in-law swore up and down he would pay for but didn't, so I got stuck with the bill".

"Luckily I only got stuck with his daughter for five years," he wrote.

Star explained that he modelled the dress since "it didn't look good on the hanger" and he had sworn off contact with women since his divorce.

Now he is already cashing in on his fame. He has already appeared on the Today television show and cable news channel CNBC.
