DirecTV update problems on HD receivers

Just a heads up for any of you out there with DirecTV HD receivers that may not be working today.

Apparently there was an update that came out that caused many receivers to not be able to power up this morning. The DirecTV phone lines are jammed up so you can't get through to tech support for answers, but people have discovered the fix and posted it in the DirecTV forums. Here's a link to the instructions to get your box back up and running if you're having problems.

How to fix your HD receiver

You would think for a problem link this that they would put a banner or notice on their webpage, but I guess they feel it's better service to have everyone call in and jam up their phone lines.

OK, looks like DirecTV just acknowledged the problem and issued a reset command to all of the affected receivers, so everything should be working now.

But if not, the link in the first post will get you up and running.

Just figured I'd put it here since a lot of you guys (like myself), check here for answers to everything.

Wife mentioned that it wasn't working earlier.

She did the universal wife fix it....

Yanked the cord outta the way, effectively resetting it...

Works now.

We had the same problem this morning. Got back home a little bit ago, and it seems to be working fine now. Only problem is that my wife DVR's The Young and the Restless everyday. It didn't get recorded today. She's gonna be P.O.ed when she gets home!

I've been there before. You can catch it on Soap Network (Channel 262) at 6pm or 11pm. Always a good thing that they're showing re-runs so the wife stays happy when the recording gets preempted by news or blackouts.

Hey Justin,
Have you noticed how much louder the commercials are lately on Directv?
It just seems to have gotten much worse lately. We are running the audio through our stereo receiver, but I don't think that would make a difference.

I've noticed the volume varying quite a bit between channels, but I haven't noticed it as much on commercials. Then again I either switch channels during a commercial or most of the stuff we watch is recorded so I bypass the channels.

I run my audio through my stereo receiver as well and wouldn't expect it to make any difference.

The other odd thing I noticed lately is that when you pause programming and it switches to the screensaver mode showing the DirecTV logo, it will occasionally flash back to the screen image for a split second. It was really noticeable last night when the lights were dim and the the paused image was a bright white screen on Ice Road Truckers. You would see the white screen flash on, then it would switch back to the black background with the logo.

They pipe in Directv to the shacks at the rigs. I have noticed the commercials are WAY louder. Really irritating. Saw a segment on FNC, that said they were making the volume louder to get you to notice them. We noticed, and changed the channel. Who are the mooooorons who think this stuff up, and how do I get that job???? I am WAY qualified!!

I noticed this about 4months ago...thought it was just the new LCD tv and the sensivity of it. PITA....but i think the regulation is that the commercial can't be more than 10% louder than the highest volume of the current show....something like that. So if you're watching Nascar better get the ear plugs or if you watch Lifetime better turn up the volume...
