computer experts...

Normally, Im able to work these machines just fine, but as of late, here is my issue.

I have a laptop that i use at work. works fine when at work.

I have a desk top we use at home, works fine on its own.

IN the past , I could take my laptop home, unplug from the desktop, plug into my laptop and i was up and running.
We have SBC dsl at home, whichis the phone cable running into the small black box, then internet cable to the computer.

Last 4 or 5 times i have brought my laptop home, i can get online, but for short periods and it will drop off. then it stalls on the "aquiring signal".
On occasion , i can re start the dsl box, and it will come on again, usually for a short period. the box has a light indicating ethernet and internet. usually its the internet one that drops out.

Any ideas on what could be causing such intermittant hassle?

thanks

check to see if the board in the laptop is going bad, run out and get an adapter that lets you run the cat cable from the router to the adapter, and then the adapter will plug into your laptop. something like this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812203024
20 bux and it will get you up and running. I doubt it is the router, seeing as the desktop computer has no issues with it. only other thing would be to go tot he device and see if there are any updates for the driver, sometimes they can help.
