I was wondering is anybody else has a train under there tree and if so, got any pics? This is my John Deere set that I put together. I also have a Steam Locomotive that smokes.

 

We had one when I was a kid. Wish I still had that set.

 

Same here. The poor sucker finally died hauling a load of coal up the side of an RC car. God speed little engine.

 

No pics at the moment, but we've had a train under our tree since the first year we got married. I'm a bit of a train guy.

About 5 years ago we bought a really nice G scale model of the Polar Express train...complete with engine, coal tender and two passenger cars. I need to buy some better track for it than the pieces that came with it, but that things run just as smooth and quiet as you could imagine.

I don't think the one we bought is available anymore, but it's made by Bachmann and looks very much like this one:



The only difference is that our passenger cars are dark green and have the words POLAR EXPRESS written in gold letters down the side of each car...and of course they have interior battery powered lights. It's a big set though. The track layout is about 5'x10' and the train itself is over 4' long from tip to tip. G Scale trains are typically about 6" tall and the typical box car is usually about 16" long. You see them in a lot of garden railroads.

 

Plenty of O, HO, N gauge here... not under the christmas tree though......

 

I've got an N gauge as well, maybe next year it will make it under the tree. My parents bought me an my Brother a Lionel set back in the 80s. Its all metal, makes the chugging sound. They paid about $1500.00 for it back then. It's at my Mom's house. I love trains. Took a ride on the Durango/Silverton train, it was awesome, even got black sut on me from the engine.

 

I used to have a very large N scale layout (9'x17') in my garage. I didn't have the time or the money to do it like I wanted to though so I disassembled it and sold off all of my engines, rolling stock, structures and track on Ebay. Even that high dollar Lenz DCC system went away. Some day when I have the time and money I'll get back into it.

The actual train they used for the movie is right here in Michigan. Last I knew it was still painted with 'Polar Express'. I believe it's owned by the Pere Marquette (sp?) Railroad. I think Redleg knows more about it than I do, as it's a lot closer to him than it is to me.

That's a shame. My Christmas tree train is a 4-6-0 (Baldwin I believe). I really wish it were prototypical, but I guess you can't expect too much from Bachmann.
