Cheap Paint Job

I have a leper truck, all the paint on the hood is peeling off. I know DC has lousey paint but I can't afford a good paint job right now. Has any body got an opinion on cheap paint jobs? Sheib, MAACO, etc. I just want to get the thing sealed up for a year or so until I can get the body work done and repaint then. Thanks

If you go to www.google.com and search for "Dodge paint peeling" you'll see you're not alone.

Apparently Dodge hosed up in their procedures when painting vehicles a couple of years.

Although 10 years later might be a little long to try to get them to 'fess up and offer assistance, it might still be worth a properly worded letter to Chrysler accompanied by a few pictures.

Spraying the affected areas with a couple coats of good primer might help in the short run.

my bet for you is park it under an overpass with a couple cases of multi color spray paint and let the local "artists" paint it up mural style.......... tiill chysler comes up with a better option for you anyway.

I guess the prob with the paint is it does not stop UV rays very well and it destroys the bond with the primer. I guess I will try to stop the peel with a clear overcoat but I've got to do something or rust will get a good hold on it. Primer tends to absorb water and that ain't good. Not much water here but it will happen sooner or later. Thanks

Mine did the exact same thing except my truck was balding Don't do a cheapy paint job, it will just be more hassel in the future. I say sand down the spots with some 220 sandpaper (wetsand preferably) and just primer it. I dont know how bad you truck is but I would really avoid crappy paint jobs because they always lack good preperation will just lead to more problems later.

My truck has a really crappy paint job but it's due to an idiot painter. I plan to strip it down to bare metal then primer it. I want it painted white anyway. I figure Maaco can do a decent enough job if it's preped right.

I own a good AC so I might buy a spray gun and some paint and try it myself. Who knows, it couldn't be any worse.
