cb mounts

Hey fellas. I need some ideas on where to mount my cb. I have a 97 and with my brake controller mounted below the steering wheel I can't seem to find a spot for my cb. It is a cobra 148 so I need plenty of room. Maybe if you all have pics or just some good ideas. Anything would help.

Re:cb mounts

This is the one I'm using.

Michael Brolin is no longer making them though.
Postage rates got to be too high.
Slick mount, just slides in between the seat and lower mount and is secured by the two existing screws.
Wouldn't be too hard to build something comparable.

Re:cb mounts

That is a lot like what I was thinking of shovlehead. I like that design but I want mine to look as nice as that one and not like a shoddy copy.

Re:cb mounts

I made something like the Brolin mount.
Just a piece of wood, length of the middle seat, and about 3/4 as high.
Covered it with matching vinyl so it looks pretty.
Two smaller pieces of wood attached to vinyl coated one, and "jammed" at an angle under the seat to hold it steady.

Kids and girlfriend don't like it where it is though
(they like to sit next to me for some reason :),
will probably yank out the cupholder (big foldown unit in middle of lower dash, auto tranny version) and mount it in there.

If you do a search, back about 444 days (seems to work best), you might find the pics I posted, I don't have them here at work, you also might find pics of other setups as well.

phox

Re:cb mounts

I'm getting my radio back tomorrow and I think I'm gonna try to make the mount where it goes in the middle between the stick and the console. That is really the only place I have to put it and I hope it won't be bad to make the mounts. I want to make them out of some kind of light steel. If I was to make them out of wood it would be easy but I have a welding class now so I think I'll do it with steel just for the experience.

Re:cb mounts

If you can weld aluminum in that class, Tractor Supply and some hardware/lumber stores have it in stock.

Re:cb mounts

While waiting for something more permanent to come to mind, I rigged up a temporary solution. I don't use my "middle seat" for nothing more than a place for that console. I took a sheet of light steel (use to be a no smoking sign, must be some symbolism in there somewhere) and bent it about 2/3rds into a "L" shape that matches the shape of the seat. Used drop chain on the top edge which hides under the console looped through the buckled seatbelt. It's wide enough for my Cobra 29 and a handheld Scanner. Neat and clean until something else comes along.

~Dave

Re:cb mounts

If it is a small one, you could try this (see attached pic). Keeps the noise (and stupid language and opinions) on my side of the truck which pleases the CFO. The CB is the box on the left. The Jordan is on the right.

Bob
