Car seats and Cargo vans....

So I am giving the wife my truck to use as a daily driver and am going to be purchasing a Cargo van with only 2 captains chairs. We have a 2 month old and were wondering what exactly needs to be legal and most of all safe for her?
I am assuming that she can travel in the front passenger side with airbag OFF if that is the only option? What if I fabed something up in the middle that is bolted to the floor? Do you think this would need to be inspected/certified by some state authority?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure cargo vans have the on/off switch for the passenger side air bag. I have always used Astro cargo vans and none ever had the keyed switch.

Honestly, don't mod or rig anything up. Not worth your child's safty... Take the truck. If you just have to use the van, If available, buy a center seat(bench I presume). and install when needed.

Get ahold of your local state police and ask them about helping with an inspection for doing a fab job. You can't do it legally on your own. It's not a bad idea to research through them though. The center area would normally be safer unless it interferes with the driver at all. Also, you should looking for a reverse facing seat. It's not law in my state or USDOT, just recommended. Your local pd or fire may have an officer or class on istructions for proper seat installation too.

I rented one recently to see if i even liked it and i DO . The center fab job is a must, when she is in the passenger seat its very difficult to see outta the side mirror.. once I find a van to buy.. I will talk to the local authorities as well as keep researching.
