A/c Trouble, Need Help Please, Jeep Cherokee

My wifes 2000 Jeep Cherokee w/ 4.0L, auto, 4X4 is having some a/c problems.

I charged it with 134a so it is not low on freon. When she turns it on, it stays cool for maybe 10-15 minutes then goes warm. Anyone know what is causing this problem?

Hope someone can help..... Cause when the little lady aint happy...... Aint NOBODY happy.

When you say you charged it, did you charge it with the hi/lo side manifold guages? Was the system completly empty before you filled it? If so did you pull a vaccum on the system before you filled it?

If it blows warm after a few minutes that indicates to me that the system is under charged and the evaporator is freezing up.

No, I dont have guages, just put a can in. I guess I will have to break down and get some guages.

Thanks for your reply!

Agreed, you need gauges. If you have a Harbor Freight near by, I have a set of their gauges and they are plenty good enough for the occasional a/c pressure check. I think I paid about $75 for them. I looked on their site and they only have one set, but they are not the ones I bought about two years ago. They are cheaper, but come with a case and a protector for the gauges, look better than what I bought, and they are on sale for $40.

Are you sure you don't have a leak? Our 2000 Cherokee had the evaporator, the part in the dash, rot out the bottom last summer. Seems to be a common problem here in central Virginia. You won't like the job ahead to replace it, you have to pull the entire dash board out to get to it. Repair place wanted $1200 for the fix.
