buying a 98 durango
Alright I have my Nomex on so flame away. Have you looked at or driven an Expedition. It gets about 13-16 with the 5.4L. I have a 98 with 170,000mi on it and it hasn't given me a problem since I've had it. Well I did have to replace a vacuum line at 140,000mi and an alternator at 150,000mi. But I have been very pleased with it. It has plenty of room, a great ride and is super reliable. It does like gas. Mine has got the tow package. Which means it has the same tranny as the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. I know used they are selling very cheap around here. We have the rear heat and air. It will freeze you out in the summer or burn you out in the winter if you want. If you like the looks of them, give one a try.
Buy what you want, but all this plenum gaskets blowing out all your oil, heater doors, upper ball joints would kind of turn me off of a Durango.

The girlfriend and I just bought a '98 Durango off ebay.
It has alot of miles, and I can tell by the high idle it needs teh intake gasket replaced, but other than that it works perfect. It's a 4x4 with leather, rear a/c, has the 5.2 which is powerfull, but not insane
It has 186,350 miles, and everything works fine. The only small problem we are having with it is that it does get a little warm. We just had the a/c serviced, and the fan clutch replaced, but the fan is roaring most of the time.
Paid $3,551 for it. Paint still shines, leather looks great.
BTW, on the expedition/navigator, don't even get started on the headgaskets, idler arms, water pumps, and egr malfunctions.
We bought our D for the smaller size, but still transporting 7 people.
